For some reason, the O/S rear is always 15mm lower than the N/S rear on my 225. I've ran out of adjustment on the spring cup and can't raise that side anymore! I've tried to have the height at 350mm at the front and 370mm at the rear (floor to arch), but the best I can get that side is 355mm. The car is fully stripped out but does have the battery in the boot. Any ideas?
On BCs the spring collar doesn’t adjust height, only the spring pre-load. The height adjustment is via the lower collar where the threaded damper tube inserts into the damper body bolted to the hub.
The rears only have one collar for adjustment with the shock separate. The fronts have the height adjustment and pre-load separate, I kept the pre-load as standard and adjusted the height via the spinning of the shock. Ironically, I'm almost out of height adjustment on the front at that side too. I did make and adjustment to the shock, but this had little to no effect on overall height, so i assumed moving the shock at the rear made an adjustment to the preload rather than height. There's barely a 1/4 tank in the car so that would be negligible for the height change. It's a strange one! I even swapped the units from side to side and theres no difference.
I have a similar problem on my MK3 (Left hand drive since i live in Sweden). With newly fitted BC-coils i tried to set the ride height wheel centre to arch at abuot 355 in the front and 360 mm rear. But i struggle here as well with the right rear wheel that now is almost fully raised and still wont get more than 335 mm so its about 25 mm of. and i am starting to wonder if the car is crooked, i have measured on a number of places on the rear axle to compare left and right side and can´t find anything that is off. Right now my coils are adjusted like this: Front ( measuring visible thread on the coilover) Right side: 28,3 mm Left side: 55.0 mm Rear ( measuring visible thread over the spring) Right side: 36,3 mm Left side: 11,3 mm
contact apex, bc coilovers come in different length but the same rate in kgs. looks like you have the right kg but wrong coil length. a longer coil will lift the rear ride height and you will probably need to re lower the seat on the adjustable rears
most buy these kits to have the car low. so most kits contain springs for a low stance .370mm rear is probably classed as high. so the spring in the kit will be to short for what your trying to achieve
free length is what your looking for and kg and diameter top and bottom https://www.bc-racing.co.uk/springs...MIwvm6y9SV6gIVmql3Ch0ELgNJEAAYASAAEgLX6fD_BwE
In the front both left and right about 650 mm In the rear left 660 mm and right 635 mm I guess you are right that i would like my car higher than most, but i think its odd that there is such a big difference between left and right. So i dont think a loger spring will fix the original probem. Thanks for the link, unfortunately my springs dont seem to come in any different lenghts. (BC 7kg Taper Spring 62.75.185.007) I have also taken the rear springs out to look at them and take measurments to see if they are " identical". And they seem to be. both lenght and the diameter of the material is the same (and the part number). Also tried to switch sides to see if the probem followed one spring or not. but the result was the same. The rear right is still lower. measured how much the springs are compressing from the suspension beeing at max travel to sitting "normal" without a jack. And the rear right is beeing compressed about 15-20 mm more than the left. The bushing in the front of the rear axle seems to bee in good condition on both sides, colud this otherwise affect tihis som how? Best regards / Patrik
It's a strange one. I also swapped the springs over and the problem remained! I'm going to lower the car a further 10mm to see if that has any effect, at worst it should balance it out a little.
Did you get to the bottom of this. I’m adjusting mine atm and there’s no way I can get 630mm on the rear. Think 650mm might be the lowest with the collar wound full. Think it might be to die with stiffer spring rates.
I haven't tbh. Probably going to be doing some work on the car over the weekend so will take another look! How have the fronts balanced out? My O/S front is massively different to the N/S too!
Unfortunately not, my turbo has managed to work itself loose so I may take it off the road and pull the engine.
