Why is the sound generator so hated?

Not quite understanding the hate for the sound generator. As far as I understand, it pumps intake and recirc etc. noise into the cabin.

What are the cons of it and why is it so hated? Do most people remove and bung?

  2. Yup removed and bunged . You can lose boost through it also if there's holes or cracks

How much is it new? surely worth replacing if and when it fails given it improves cabin sound?

  4. If you fit an induction kit you won't need the cabin noise

  5. I just bought a second hand one for £20 as I had a blanking plate and BOV setup which wasn’t to my taste. I can’t see any real advantage of blocking it unless it’s knackered.
