OG 250 Cup

Discussion in 'Megane Projects' started by jamesbeaumont, May 13, 2020.

  1. Hi all. Pleased to say I am coming back to RS ownership having just placed a deposit on a lovely OG 250 - to be collected once the lockdown has been lifted here in Scotland. This will be my 5th RS Megane (2xR26, DCI 175 and 250 Cup preciously).

Excited about this one as it’s lovely and good ones are hard to find now. The vital specs:

    Lux, Cup and Visibility packs
    Leather Recaros
    RS Monitor
Just 2 owners and FSH. Belts done 1k ago
    Airtec intercooler
    RS tuning map
TD 1.2 18’s with AD08’s (may look to swap these for standard 18’s with less track focussed tyres for my use)
Brembo HC discs, Pagid RS29 pads, braided lines and Castrol SRF fluid

    It’s in really nice condition so just a few small plans for it at the mo;

    Refresh the callipers
    Mid-box chop
Yellow seatbelts to brighten up the interior
De-badge the ‘Megane’ in the rear
Paint the door handles and exhaust surround gloss black
    Perhaps a steering wheel retrim

Will post more pics when I have collected it and given it a good detail.

  9. Ah... sorry about that Sir!

I am looking forward to collecting it - haven’t seen it yet!

What specs are you looking for? I can keep an eye out if you like.

  10. Dont be daft! It's the way it works.

It certainly sounds as though it's been a well looked after car. Nice choice of options and additions.

After something similar tbh, cup pack and leather Recaros, any other options are a bonus and any colour.

  11. I was speaking to someone who had a very similar specced one in white. Only thing for me was it is on coilovers which wouldn’t suit the roads up here. Very clean, cup, lux, Recaros, FSH, 61k and same sort of price. Let me know if you are interested.

  12. Well, yesterday was collection day. The car is in very nice condition as expected, great paintwork and mechanically perfect.

The previous owner was quite fastidious and a call to the garage who did all the work on the car under his ownership confirmed that. Anything that needed done, was done.

The only surprises were a few other mods on the car that I wasn’t aware of - it looks like it is pollybushed all round, including engine mount and dogbone. It also already has a mid box chop (great) and a Ktec induction kit with blanking plate and BOV (not so great as not to my taste). I am looking to swap for a standard airbox and recirc setup if anyone in Scotland is looking for a CIA.

Today was very busy going over the car so pics and details to follow.

  13. Ok, a full day spent going over the car and starting on am the ‘to do’ list.

Before I even washed it I had the Megane lettering off the boot

Next was giving the engine bay some tlc. I am on the lookout for an engine cover if anyone has one.

Fully degreased and dressed. Metal polished. I have some replacement trim screws on the way. Anyone know where I can source the 2 larger bolts either side of the slam panel on the squares?

I then started on the interior. The door rubbers were faded so these were scrubbed with trim cleaner. I was pleased to see they came up well.

I then gave the interior a full clean with APC and dressed. I also cleaned and conditioned the leather seats.

Back to the outside and I removed the exhaust trim in preparation to spray it gloss black. The chrome finish was peeling and had seen better days.

Then a wash down with snow foam and some brushwork.

I did notice one of the rear lights is fogged up so a replacement is on its way.

  21. Today’s work. The paint is in very nice condition but I wanted to address a few small areas with a heavier cut before doing a full one stage polish and wax in the next few weeks.

A few on the rear bumper area along with the sill areas where stones have speckled their lacquer.

  26. Current situation...

Stripped down to allow access to remove the blanking plate, dump valve and induction kit. These were not to my taste so standard recirc has now been fitted with an airbox and sound generator pipe to follow.

FYI. The far left bolt on the recirc was a nightmare!

Whilst I am there I thought it worthwhile to also do the thermostat so waiting for that (and Type D coolant) to arrive.

Also tempted to do the short shift mod while I am here... but I quite like the shift as it is.

  27. What a maze there! Good idea about thermostat, take advantage for that jobs now you have the batt out. When I get out mine next time, I´ll change clutch link, thermostat and gear box mount bolt.

  28. personally I do the short shift, well worth it, also if changing coolant and if dont already know ive indicated one of coolant bleed points when re-filling

  29. Thanks Bob. I may just do it... can always change it back if I don’t like it.

Re the coolant bleed. I’d read I can just run the engine with the lid off the tank and it will sort itself out?

If no, do I just loosen that bolt a little?

Thermostat changed today whilst the battery tray is out. I also did the short shift mod but not sure I like it - much shorter throw for sure but definitely notchier. I’ll see if I get on with it.

I also replaced the rear number plate lights with LED units as the originals were past it. I sealed the new ones to prevent any moisture getting in.

  33. got foto of your ball stud location ? if went too far over then will be super short

good luck with that 3rd thermostat bolt (hahahah)

would love LED plate light but those current items are like mini spotlight shining out back of car at night look bit odd i thought

  34. I don’t but will get one. I suspect it maybe is a couple of mm to the right of optimal - I didn’t want it fouling the old stud.

Haha, that third bolt was a walk in the park compared to the third bolt on the recirc valve!!

I’ll see how the LED lights are. The originals were shot anyway so no harm in trying them. If not, I’ll get some standard units.

  35. cool, i might be thinking about recirc bolt actually
if LED are silly bright keep em and maybe dim down little with something like clear plasi-dip spray, although clear it does diffuse light the more layers you apply so still better than horrid bulb yellow plus the plasi-dip will protect housing

  37. Out of curiosity, where does your temp gauge sit once the car is up to work temperature?

  38. ianplymouth

    On a Mk3, vertical

  39. be5c960f75be7984d0201f32bc4d04ab.jpg

On 250’s they sit a little to the left. Later cars had a different gauge where they sat vertical.

  40. Mine is just like that. I have order a new one, and noticed it have a different temp. to open. I mean, first units mount a 83ºC open(I think, every 250RS), but then Renault change it to a 89ºC open(265RS and follows). That can explain in Ian´s Meg the needle is vertical and ours a little bit on the left.
