What have you done to your Car today?

  1. Replaced the fuel filter today. Was simple once I’d gotten the clips off. One broke about 3 quarters of the way down so I reused it and cable tied it to be safe. The old filter was a bit of a bugger to get out! Was definitely the original one.

Getting the old one out is easy, let me know how you get on with fitting the new one :laughing:

  3. Put the battery on charge foir a few hrs with my ctek. Walked past it a few times.

Put a giant teddy bear I drivers seat a few days ago. Someone may as well enjoy it.

  4. Someone’s bored ha ha

  5. Spent a few hours polishing and waxing the drivers side (including wheels and roof) and front bumper and bonnet, gonna do passenger side (including wheels and roof), boot and rear bumper tomorrow

  6. It may be a twat of a job but my love for Meg will never waiver!

  7. most aftermarket suppliers will sell you a rigid frame cabin filter ie its got thick plastic surround which is completely the wrong design
a genuine reno cabin filter has no surround and is easy to squash up and push into tiny opening of filter location where it expands to correct position

  8. Oh my! Forgot that you have pedals in that side!!:fearscream::fearscream: Without pedals is a hard jog, can´t imagine with they!
Mann or Mahle filters don´t have that rigid frame.

  9. Wasn't too bad getting the new one in, only took 50 mins!

  10. It was the wrong dimension too. The code on the box was different to the receipt, someone needs to pay more attention when picking customer orders!

  11. Be grateful you don't have pedals to contend with, it's a horrible job! Done now tough.

  12. Its not often the case but in this instance it pays to buy genuine reno part

  13. The replacement wasn't a genuine Renault part to be fair, was able to squash it in like you mentioned though. Remember having to squash the one for my 200, that was in the passenger footwell though!

  14. In the last two month it’s had;
    R26.r clutch and smf
    Full gearbox rebuild
    Service
    Hubs rebuilt

Just needs new shocks and drivers side recaros and wheels refurbing.

    Wash and sealed sat/sun

Orders 19mm front 21mm rear spacers which should make it sit nicely.

  15. Started a little project with the intercooler today.

So much time on my hands lol.

  16. In the last couple of weeks my money pit has been....... Washed, twice! [emoji16]. FULLY polly bushed all round, short shift fitted... (Big thanks to Phil Watkins for supplying one!) and driven about 20 miles! Short shift is superb, suspension now stupidly stiff!

  17. I really need to do the short shift mod!

  18. Finished bodging up an intercooler water sprayer, need to run some tests and log some data to see if its doing anything.

i'm sure its not that bad :smirk:

  22. I've got it set up to a push button at the minute, if it has some meaningful effects then I'll fit a 10 sec relay to save me holding it down.

I've just used a couple of washer jets and ran the pipe through the aluminium bar, had to come in from above to try and eliminate seepage from the tank.

Seems to be a good amount spreading across the intercooler, I'll let the sealant set tonight and get my leaf blower to replicate some wind and see how it goes.

let us know if you think it makes any difference :laughing:

  24. I'll log some temps and post them up, may do a separate thread with all the info on there.

I'm not expecting to notice anything power wise, but last time out at Anglesey my intake temps were almost 25c above ambient!

I'm hoping I can reduce some heat soak with this and I'm moving the battery to the boot and fitting the air filter where the battery was as at the minute, it's stuffed right at the back and almost touching the gearbox!

  25. Yes man!! That is a good idea. I have it on mi mind. When removed the rear wiper I thought to do it. Don´t think to fit a button, but will fit the temporal relay.
    Good think Agreen!

the battery relocation in a mk2 is easy and a great idea, the mk3 is a pain, it can be moved to the wheel well but then that leave no room for the forth track day wheel :cry::cry:

  27. The plan was to use the rear wiper as that would've been much easier!

Unfortunately, for some reason when I hit the rears it sets off the front washer and wipers!

So I went with this set up instead! But remember, this is strictly a track car so interior finishes are absolutely meaningless to me lol!

  28. This is the current state of the interior LOL!

It wouldn't be acceptable for your road car :dizzy:

  29. That's a pain!

I was hoping to get a trailer sorted this year but doubt that'll happen now!

A big 20+ltr tank in the rear would be worth fitting, would be enough for a good morning or afternoon stint

In a mk2, you can get 4 wheels across the back no chance in a mk3, but if you have a trailer it won't matter :sunglasses:

  32. Yeah it depends how trick you want to get with it!

You could set it up to activate on boost or a particular throttle opening etc but you'd soon go through the fluid!

Then you have the option of using chemicals that evaporate quicker than water etc.

I live in a soft water area, but I think I'll still boil all the water first to try and eliminate any limescale build up.

I looked at the Meth injection kit before to spray water onto the intercooler, it sprays at a higher pressure but the water droplets are a lot lot smaller, so is more efficient at taking away the heat, but the cost of the parts is quite a lot more than the setup you have used.

    Good work though :sunglasses:

  34. Yeah I had a devil's own kit on my old Alfa, expensive piece of kit and the pump seized after a couple of weeks!

A mist would be much better than this, but in reality, this has probably cost £30!

I've toyed with the idea of something into the wheel arches to cool the brakes etc but that would have to be high pressure.

I remember that the racing trucks had water cooled brakes, never thought about it on a car, was worried about the discs cracking (more) that would be easier to operate by using the brake light switch.

  36. If you activated with the brake lights I don't think you'd get enough heat into everything in the first place tbh. If I was to try it, I'd slap another switch on the dash somewhere.

The main thing that puts me off would be cracking or warping the discs, I think you'd have to have a very fine mist so you're not smashing them with water droplets.

When my pedal hit the floor I started to think what could be done to cool them lol!

I never had any problems with my mk2 with brake fade etc, i did upgrade to a mk3 setup and ended up using lesser pads as the ones i tried were way too aggressive, its those aggressive pads i now use in my mk3 to get a reasonable brake now.

Also with the discs being HC they will rust even with the thought of a drop of water on them :laughing:

  38. Yeah I've never had a problem before and when we stripped them, the seals were knackered and the fluid was pretty black so think a bit of water found it's way into the system. I've fitted new seals now and will flush new fluid through the whole system when I finally get back out on track!

I may upgrade to a 330mm disc next time to try and help with heat build up.

  39. So I’ve been stock piling a few parts and decided to tackle it while we’re going nowhere.
So far I’ve got to fit:-
    New intercooler.
    Forge boost pipes.
All engine and gearbox mounts with poly bushes coming next week.
    Dark insert headlights.
    Gutted a/c pump.
    Fog light blanks.
    Washer jet blanks.
    Small washer bottle.
    New splitter.
    R26r spoiler.
    New battery.
    Temic module.
    A load of trim clips.
And I’m painting my Renault badges black too while I’m at it  85ACDC9C-7004-4855-960B-E2316D5854F9.jpeg
An hour later it looked like this :tearsofjoy: C25532B3-9642-46AD-944A-FE1048120970.jpeg

  40. you would probally have to do this for it to be practicle. Some jap import Impeza STI`s had the washer bottle modified in the factory to work as a intercooler spray, but wasnt practicle,as the tank wouldnt last 5 mins before empty..
