Hi all, So I accidentally melted a hole in the pipe pictured when I was doing up the positive terminal of the battery and made contact with my spanner. I know. I'm a fool. Anyway I can't figure out what this pipe is. Can you guys just tell me please? Also it looks like aluminium can a mechanic weld this up for me? Or do I need a new one? Many thanks.
If i think its the boost pipe you are on about, your not the first person to do this, as a temporary fix you can put a self tapping screw in it, it's very thin so whoever welds it will have to be very gentle
That's what I thought but when I google boost pipe I just get loads of hits for induction hoses. Any advice? There are two holes. One is too big for a self tapper.
If that's the case it will be probably be better getting a piece of silicon hose and sliding it over the holes and clamp either end Or there has to be someone breaking a mk2
The part number is 8201025331 - might ease your search. You get both the hoses with it, and it's a bitch to replace, but there you go.
But the job becomes more skilled- and expensive- at that point though. When you can get a second hand one for 40 quid, it doesn't seem worth it.
I thought it was aluminium, give it a magnet test, i know they are light so could be thin steel. You need to take the battery out and also the battery tray to get at it properly, but you know what can happen when you remove or refit the battery
Turns out it was steel and a very nice bloke welded a plate over the holes for ten quid! Cheapest horsepower I'll ever buy!
