Evening everyone. I am still having issues with my paintwork on the megane. Upto now I have used Turtle wax black box (this did make my car look a lot better but did not hide very many of the vast amounts of swirl marks on the paintwork). Then I have tried clay barring my car (whilst this has made my paintwork super smooth it has also highlighted even more all the swirl marks on the paintwork). Now I am trying to weigh my next move. I was thinking about buying a buffing machine like the meguiers one after watching clips of it on you tube making massive amounts of difference to a really scratched bonnet but then I thought would I just be better paying for a car restoration/detail by someone reputable???
Personally on your colour of car I would swallow the cost and have it professionally machine polished
Dude, I owned a black 225 for 3 years. I looked after it very well and it was very shiny :-). But...........the swirls and holograms on it were awful. Very difficult to run / use a black one as a daily and keep the swirls at bay..... The paint on these has a very bad reputation, I'm sure a few others will come along and say the same. Using a polisher takes a lot of practice and patience. I feel for you matey as have been there!
I'm with Rosscoe mate and can tell you he spent hours and I mean hours on his car , it always looked good I would go and get a professional detail and then keep on top of it as best you can , there will always be marks turn up again and will really get in your head but with the right methods and tools you can keep it looking Great
Wax won't hide the swirls, it needs polishing by a detailer. But you also need to keep on top of this and wash and clean it correctly. even washing or drying your car wrong will result it defects and marks appearing on your paint work. check this link out as a guide to detailing and steps you take in detailing.... Tbh if you go down tbe page you'll find some decent threads that will help you out. And sign up to detailing world http://www.rsmegane.com/showthread.php?353-Ultra-Blue-Megane-R26-Clean-up
i have the meg's microfibre DA kit and its really good. worth the money, and on our paint it isn't too harsh either. could be worth a shout... depends if you need to buy the equiptment or if you have a DA polisher already. if you don't it may be cheaper to take it to a detailer, my local ranges from £160-£195 depending what you want including. i have the stuff from when i used to do it so im just going to do it myself lol. im not a professional by any means haha but its the cheaper option for me and the hard work will pay off
Yep, I had one for over 3 years, the paint marks so easily. I spent 10 hours machine polishing mine once, and whilst it looked great after, it didn't take long for the swirls to start returning no matter how careful you are washing. I didn't even use anything to dry mine, just rinsed it down with RO water. Basically you're always fighting a losing battle with black cars, even more so if the paint is soft.
Mine is looked after by - www.elitedetailing.co.uk THE best out there.. G is such a great guy, he will give you loads of advise and help, plus has an on line shop.. Mine- www.elitedetailing.co.uk/Portfolio/Renault/Megane-R26R-Black/168 His longest detail was 3 weeks (6 days a week) on an F40, costing £25,000 to its owner!!!
Black megane paint want a good bit of cutting with a mf type pad to reduce the orange peel and then something with a long working time and good cut to finish like scholl concepts S3 with a medium polishibg pad. Before all this though get the correct items for your weekly washing. Dave
I had all these problems with mine. So I had a full paint renovation detail. It made so much difference. It looked like a new car. All the swirl marks are gone and even a scuff I picked up in a car park was polished away. I can't recommend getting a detail enough. The guy I use even does maintenance washes so when it's dirty I call him and he comes to my work and washes it. So the swirl marks don't reappear.
I had a black one for 3 years too, it always looked good and didn't need a massive amount of looking after. I'd pay someone to do it it it's bad though, Ross's car was a nightmare!
