How reliable are 225's?

  1. Thinking of getting a Meg 225 to potentially run into the ground. (Hit 100k's of motorway miles). It will be well looked after with oil changes, break fluid, etc etc. I'm going to keep it standard and if anything small needs replaying such as spark plugs, disks, air filters they will be OEM.

My questions is, are the engines/gear boxes reliable for that amount of miles? Or is there a threshold where they go pop.

  2. they are normally capable of going over 100k
.But if its been tuned, then obviously more strain is put on the internals.
they really are getting old now,so i would be more worried about driveshafts, suspension components being very tired.
my own garage queen 50k miles R26 has recently had everything replaced on the suspension, steering and clutch/flywheel side,as it was all past its best.

They suffer with engine issues if they've been mapped, I would keep a 225 stock power, and electrical issues

  4. mines been running mapped for 10 years..but it was done by the best, and capped below 300lb/ft.
obviously mapping a 100k car is never going to be a good idea, but theres a good chance its allready been done.
the rods are the weak point, but a lot of it still just comes down to the luck of the draw with mapping, and just general longevity of the engine before it gives up.
