I would like some of your opinions. I'm in need of a set of tyres, all four for my R26. The choices are - Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric 2 Conti Sport Contact 5 Michelin Pilot Sort 3 Pirelli P Zero Dunlop SP Sport Max RT Yokohama Advan Sport V105S Bridgestone RE040 The one I'm drawn to is the Goodyear as this won last years Evo Tyre test. But I am eager to hear what people think and what they use. Also tyre size. At the moment the tyres I have are 225 40 18 but the hand book say they should be 235 40 18. Does this make a difference? Obviously the 225 is a narrower tyre, and a little cheaper, but does it make any difference to the feel and handling of the car? Thanks.
PS3's for me! I've had them since the summer and find them a great all round tyre in the wet and dry, no dramas at all with them.
Why not ps2's ? I went ps2 to ps3 (which are a great tyre but nothing on the ps2) and now back on ps2s and loving it everyone speaks so highly of the goodyears bar andrew jeffs who has them on his meg and hates them!
pilot sports for me as well. eagle F1's did win the EVO test but it was very close. PS3's perhaps play to the meganes strengths more but both are very good road tyres. Dave
Michelin super sports, PS2 are harder to find and are being replaced by the Super Sports. PS3 are not a sporty tyre more a softer tyre construction, better for motorway driving than B roads. What about these Nankangs ns-r (see the thread in the forum) they are all on about worth a punt if you fancy something different.
I have Eagle F1's on the front currently and think they're good although I've got nothing to compare them against.
I'm running Hankook v12 evo's at the minute and they are great IMO, I know they are not on your short list but may be worth a look?
I need to add that a lot of my driving, maybe 90% is B roads. So the tyre I choose has to be good on that type of road.
Too much sidewall flex. Imagine that on the bottom of your trainers that you have two jellies ( one for each foot obviously ) strapped to them. Now try running. The car feels like that. I have come from PS2 , and will be going to RSR595
I've got toyo proxes t1s on mine they seem good in the dry not hard at all to spin the wheels in the wet but I've got nothing to compare to so there are likely better out there
I always had eagle f1 on my 225 and loved them, they might match my driving style! I like how the amount of grip always felt right, I knew when it was about to lose grip (rarely, wet or dry). I'm fitting them to the 250 soon too.
currently got CSP5's on at the moment. Can't fault them to be honest in my opinion they're a nice step up from the 3's. Asy 2's are good as well. I wouldn't go for the P-zero's as they dont last very long and can be a bit scary in the wet especially when it they get low tread.
I used to run 595 RSR's and have to say that the Nankangs feel much better all round and in the wet too. I should be at Cadwell on Saturday so can see how they compare on track.
I mounted the Bridgestone Potenza S001 in 235/40 18 is really a good tire, soft compoud and shoulder stiffer than the Pilot Sport 2.
