  1. Morning all,

I've just come across this website having owned my R26 for 3 years now. I love the car however have recently had an issue which saw the alternator bolt sheer off and smash the cambelt cover which in turn took out the cambelt. Currently having the engine stripped down to ascertain damage but it will be rebuilt.

The car is completely standard but I'm currently mulling over what to do next based on the above.

I'm based near Sheffield and having looked through the intro page it looks like there are a few of us on here from this area.

I can guarantee its bent the valves, had it happen to me, alternator belt shredded a couple of grooves off and got caught in the cambelt, was only running about 2500 rpm, all 16 new supertec valves bent only in the engine for 35 miles :cry:

  4. Thanks for the welcome andrewjeffs. I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that the valves will be bent.
Ian - had you already had you engine rebuilt then if it had new valves in place? Pretty terrible luck if so.

Can anyone recommend any places to source parts?

  5. RPD is very good for most parts.
In regards to the valves, someone will be along soon with who to get these from.

I had a 250 engine in my 225, it came out of a crashed car, first problem was i ran a big end bearing at Thruxton, fixed that and later in the year it dropped a valve at Spa, rebuilt the engine with forged conrods and pistons, hybrid turbo, supertec valves, uprated clutch, uprated fuel pump, injectors etc etc etc
Was running it in and 35 miles down the road a flap of cloth that was stuck to the front chassis member came adrift and got chewed up by the alternator belt, that got shredded and got under the cambelt.
It bent all 16 valves so had to buy yet another set :cry::cry:

  7. I've used RPD a few times in the past and have always been impressed by them. I'll have another look tonight.

  8. Flipping heck, that is bad luck.
