Hi Guys, I've had a Stage 2 tune (317bhp & 350lbft) and am curious if I need an oil cooler for track time or if I can get away with just the standard cooling and not staying out too long. Anyone done Stage 2 and checked out their oil temps on track or gone out without an oil cooler without any problems? I would just fit one if i had more time but i'm going next week. Mods are Wagner Intercooler & GT Perf exhaust.
I have 361HP (235kW/450Nm at the wheels), no oil cooler and have done 20 minute sessions in 35 degrees on multiple occasions. The R-Link shows water and oil temps the same as OEM.
There will be mixed opinions on this one From what we experienced at Oulton a couple of weeks ago I would say that you need improved water and oil cooling Its been suggested that we may need to replace the water radiator. There only appears to be Forge that make an 'upgraded' version Maybe just taking the water / oil heat exchanger out of circuit would help Let us know how you proceed
Good to know, thanks. I sadly don't have R-link so am messing about with a Bluetooth ODB dongle and iOS app to see if I can get that working for Oil Temp
Is yours a pre-facelift or facelift model? I get the impression that the facelift is better at cooling thanks to the design of the front bumper. I've been to the track before without the stage 2 tune with no issues but we shall see... From what I've read the Forge radiator is actually worse than OEM but I have no experience of this....
Even so the R-Link shows a calculated oil temp, not actual. The water temp is actually measured. What also helps with temps is not running a lean tune just to try to get a few more ponies. A richer tune keeps everything a little cooler and a little safer. Other things I've done to manage temps is choosing a Wagner I/C over others that block the whole radiator, ceramic coated the dump pipe and run a separate turbo water cooler (Airtec unit for a Clio IV).
I did a quick search but i cant find it now, came across it while researching Intercoolers - if people have installed it recently and rate it then ignore what i said.
It's def richer, i can taste it.. LOL Yeah also went for the wagner for those exact reasons. My tuner was pretty impressed with its performance (although not as good as the much bigger Pro Alloy). Do you have any pics of where you've fitted the Airtec Turbo Water Cooler. Wouldnt mind seeing it.
Good effort with those diamond cut outs! Did you have to create any new brackets or anything to get it on there?
Thanks! But I wouldn’t trust a muppet (me) to do this work. I have a Renault specialist that also works for race teams that does all the work on my car.
Wanted to follow up on this. Did a full day at Spa with ambient temps of around 26-31 degrees Centigrade. Maximum coolant temp I saw was around 105 degrees and that was in the afternoon after about 7 laps. Think spa is pretty kind to the coolant with plenty of places to bring the temps down. Def rating the Wagner though. Too kit!
Ahh I see, thanks for that, tempted to get one myself and make it fit, as my car is mainly track use.
