Removing spare wheel tray

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by berg, Jun 14, 2019.

  1. Is there a specific way to remove the black plastic tray that the spare wheel sits in on the mk3?

I can see its bonded in by the looks of it but not sure if theres any bolts also?

  2. Not sure what you mean, mine has an insert in the boot, but it is not for a spare wheel. Got a pic?

  3. I guessed it was for a wheel judging by the shape

    But this insert/tray

  4. I should imagine that tray is stuck in, why do you need to remove it?

  5. Its an RS250 Cup

  6. Yeah mines the same , I have never dug that deep

  7. Its a debate

My mate has just bought one for track use and wants to remove it, but from looking at it underneath, it looks like removing it will leave a big open hole in the floor, but he thinks otherwise

Was hoping it was easy to remove to find out lol

  8. Not sure what he would gain from removing it, not exactly weighing the car down

  9. Think some folks remove and install flat diy piece of board/wood to fill space

  10. did not wood was lighter than plastic, sure that will make a huge difference :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

  11. Yeah it'll leave a hole in the floor. I'd leave it there because even if you do find something lighter, it's not worth the hassle of replacing it and sealing it properly against the outside elements
