Gearbox Oil & EX120

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by dd_osterman, May 28, 2019.

  1. I've picked up a faint whine from the car that's related to road speed so I'm thinking that the gearbox is going to end up being replaced at some point. However, the garage checked it and said they didn't see any problems with the bearings so I'm loathe to dump £1k on replacing it on a hunch.

I've got a trackday booked later this month, so as a temporary fix I was thinking about changing the gearbox oil and dumping in some Xado EX120 that I've seen people talk about.

Question is, should I just let the garage source standard transmission oil (2.1L of 75W-80?) or is it worth putting something better in? If so, what?

  2. Reno factory oil gets my vote 3 ltrs fit yourself

My gearbox is making a noise in third and forth, done two trips to the ring and two track days there, just a little bit noisier but not much, going to pull the box out soon, got my bearings and seals coming from a local bearing company.

Not got a track day for 7 weeks so got time :sob::sob:
