Morning all... I've got my first track-day in the RS250 coming up in June (25th at Snetterton if anyone's interested) and wanted to know what sort of preparation is recommended. It's not my first trackday so I know how they work, but the last few trackdays I did were in my old Golf R that was barely a year old so everything was in pretty decent condition and I don't want to miss some vital check beforehand and have a crap day due to a failed x/y/z. The car has developed a bit of a mechanical whine in the last few days that is linked to road speed (not engine speed) which makes me think I've got a wheel bearing on the way out. When I take it to the garage I was going to ask them to check the rest of the suspension / bearings out as well as a quick check of the bushes. Is there anything else it's worth asking them to look at at the same time? It's been serviced (by the selling dealer) less than 1,000 miles ago but I guess that would have been a fairly bog standard oil and filter change, unlikely to pick up much more. My car also didn't come with a spare wheel, though I do have a new can of tyre weld. Would you be confident tracking it without a spare on board? What about the brakes? It's a cup and just has the standard set-up. How is this likely to fare on track? Anything else obvious that I'm missing beforehand?
Decent fluid and some uprated pads and your good to go. Learn the car on oe setup and road tyres and enjoy it
Yeah that's the plan. Spend some time this year on basically OE spec, learning it and enjoying it then up to RS Tuning over winter to get it mapped / IC etc. What pads and fluid would you recommend?
Motul RBF is good and PF Z Rated seem to be a good step up from OE without going to aggressive, especially on road rubber
This is what I’d recommend too to start, very reasonable on price too. Take a spare set of rear pads too, especially if you’re leaving traction control on
That's great, thanks guys. So are these the pads you're talking about (£116.66): https://www.kamracing.co.uk/car-tun...ction-brake-pads-renaultsport-rs-250-265.html In respect of the fluid, I can see two different Motul RBFs: The 600 - https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-894-mo...performance-fully-synthetic-dot-4-rbf600.aspx The 660 - https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-1078-m...ynthetic-high-boiling-point-dot-4-rbf660.aspx It's only £4 difference so is it worth going for the 660? Will 500ml be enough for a full change? (I'm a bit of a beginner when it comes to this kind of thing...) I'll be putting traction control in Sport mode at least, so hopefully not too much rear pad wear. Not least as I'm not really confident changing my own pads on a trackday.
What are people's thoughts on the Vibratechnics gearbox torque link? Worth getting done while the car's up on a ramp for the brakes?
I got this and the gearbox mount bolt mod and upper engine mount replaced as preventative measure for the purpose of very occasional track use. Worth doing for that reason alone IMO. I also did short shifter.
RBF 660 over 600 = yes Vibratechnics link = yes Sports mode ON = accelerated rear brake pad wear Sports mode ON - traction control OFF = normal rear pad wear PFZ pads = yes
Cheers! Okay, showing my ignorance here but how do you achieve this? I've got the ESP button and if I press that, it goes into 'ESP Sport' mode. How do you disable the TC? (In case it matters, it's an RS250 Cup that does not have the Renaultsport Monitor)
Press it once to go into sport mode, press and hold to turn fully off. I'd always suggest fully off on track, otherwise your gonna destroy rear brakes in no time.
......you’ll know if OFF when get annoying dash display, that’s where the piece of sticky tape comes in handy
Stability stays on, traction goes off, Cars hopeless on track with it on, frustrating cuts power out corners first sigh of any grip loss
Everything off, but they really ain't that difficult a car to drive with it off unless you're a complete numpty [emoji23]
