The Golf had to go as I’ve been broken into twice in 3 weeks since owning it. Seems they really are a scumbag magnet. Anyway picked this up yesterday from a fellow member on here. No up to date pics yet as she’s safely stashed away. I have a few plans in mind, nothing to drastic and looking forward to doing some track days again.

  2. Golf R scumbag magnet, ha. Would put any performance car that is liked by idiots into this category also. Very nice Megane though.

What M3 did you have? I'm planning on going for an E92 in the near future

  8. Thanks for the warm welcome :kissingheart:

  9. R26R was the best handling although not had the chance to really test the 275 with the Ohlins.

Golf R for a daily / good all rounder.

Back to a Meg as fairly cheap to run / good on the road and track.

Should never have sold my R26r but I had a V8 itch I needed to scratch.

E92with EDC, DCT etc.. and the M Performance Exhaust. Never really used the radio lol.

    Lovely, standard car mainly?

  12. It was originally. When I bought it the previous owner had added extras that came with the competition pack version, wheels, boot spoiler etc....

But no real modifications such as suspension/brakes etc?

    What's your opinion on them?

Doesn't him coming back to a Megane say it all :laughing::laughing:

  15. Yeah all standard mate.
The V8 engine is a work of art and with the MPE it played a lovely tune. It’s a great car but it all depends what you’re going to use it for. Superb if you’re doing long journeys but if you like hooning around B roads / track then look elsewhere.

Ah yeah. Standard car I can understand why you would come back. I'll be looking st some proper suspension and a BBK, definitely a more capable car on track with some mods over the Meganes, plus that engine is one of the greatest ever put in a road car

  17. If the big end bearings are ok !!

Know what you mean, the two BMW's a Bedford were waiting for recovery, one ran a big end (v8) and the other (L6) recons a cam follower died.

Yeah cause the F4R is incredibly reliable [emoji23]

Preventative maintenence is key, costs ain't massive these days to havs it done either

  20. Never said the renault engine was reliable. But the m3 engines have always suffered big end issues. Had mates with the old straight 6 spun bearings on track and the V8 is renowned for them. Just not the best V8 out there that's for sure. Imo the amg 6.2 now that's a reliable V8

Again, most of that comes down to poor maintenance and people trying to run them on the cheap. I know multiple high milers that get used on track, regular oil changes keep them good. Much as everyother engine really.

Obviously they ain't bulletproof but the Internet makes them out to be far worse than they are, one of the guys I know has done 135k in his, had it since new and hasn't done bearings. Gets oil analysis done with everyother oil change and it shows no sign of wear

They had a head bolt problems, for total bullet proof its got to be the M113 5.5ltr v8 :laughing:

  23. Rob - I foolishly let that Megane get away - it’s a lovely car

It’s famous you know- featured in PistonHeads and Autocar group tests.
