250 Rattle/thump sound from engine compartment

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Bovien, Mar 25, 2019.

  1. Going over speed bumps or pot holders, I have a clonk/thump from the engine compartment. It's not droplinks or suspension as far as I can tell. Also replaced these

It sounds like heavy plastic and comes approx from the centre. Nothing obvious is loose, battery is tightened down, so I'm out of ideas. It's been constant for years but more pronounced now.

Has anyone had the same or have any ideas what do check for?

  2. Maybe the bonnet needs adjusting. Might be that rattling? Or top mounts?

  3. Check the engine mount stabiliser at the back of the engine bay left hand side as you look in

  4. get it on ramp and with good crow-bar check all suspension joints they're the usual suspects noticeably lower swivel joints

  5. I'm not ruling out top mount. Never had a car where it needed replacement, so I'm not sure what I'm listening for here. To my knowledge, I have no way of checking them while on the car?
Bonnet seems all sturdy and perfectly aligned. Not markings from anything hitting it anywhere.

Looks as new, but I'll go at it with a bar of some sorts sap

They all seems good, as I just did replace the drop links and anti rotation links. There are no apparent play in the swivels, but that does not rule out the noise.. I'll keep that in mind.

The issue is just, that is sounds like a loose something. Like if the washer fluid canister was loose. Come to think of that, I should recheck that..
