Ah right, a map would sort you then. I'll be curious to see what Jamie thinks when he gets his running again. I can't remember if it was on here but I remember seeing that someone prefers their hybrid Meg over the big turbo forged build because of the lag
That'll probably be the white one Matt West owned for a bit which was originally built by my mate up here. It was well spec'd but the turbo chosen wasnt the bets imo and it wasn't as responsive as it could of been, but then the Td04 on the Megs is very mid range orientated and responsive. Saying that, the new G25s are very, very impressive for response. Only need to look at Karl's MK2 that had the 550 fitted and the curves. Mine should be similar , maybe a bit more topend depending on cam choice and should spool a bit sooner due to VVT
I have been down the hybrid route, next time it's going to be a big turbo, maybe not silly horsepower turbo but a purpose built one
Going to look at the 550, but i think it will be a bit much, a 450 one would be better if they made one To be honest, i had a passenger ride in Karl's old car and it wasn't as on/off as i thought it would be, certainly pulled link stink though, Simon's dad was driving my 265 and we didn't over take him
Clio cams are cheaper than say Catcams Priced up Cat cams, new valves, springs and that was a grands worth and for maybe 5-10 hp, not really great value for money.
Cams free up a lot more than that with a big turbo, I'd be lucky to see near 450 on stock cams BUT Clio or catcams will see closer to 480 flat out The 550 won't actually do that on a 2.0 4 pot anyway, realisticly it's a 500max, the 660 would probably do 550-600 flat out on our engines with enough revs and boost
By all accounts they are more responsive and spool quicker than what was the benchmark turbo, the GTX2867. Even the 660 has insane spool and my mate who runs one on his trackcar almost convinced me to go that way and aim for 500 with the turbo not being pushed [emoji23] Which I'm still in two minds about
I think the limiting factor is the Woosner Pistons, there rated to 600hp, PEC rods are rated at 1000hp or 9000rpm, must be a safety factor so might get away with a bit more
Yeah, May 2020 Ian [emoji23] Charlie, will take as much as you want if you spec it properly, there's a French one with 700+, OE internals seem good for over 400, Pistons are supposed to be good for 500, Rods are the weak link again but keep the torque sensible and there's no problems on stock internal
Again sky's the limit really but a huge turbo on a 2l is going to take an age to spool haha https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1474167169304356&id=373549432699474 Dunno if that link will work
I was hoping to maybe have it done by year end and get a winter TD done but by the time I've added up all the other bits and bobs needed it probably won't be this year [emoji23]
Got this at a bargain price, both brand new and never fitted at a good saving to what Nortech wanted direct
I'm curious, could you fit a 265 ECU and have normal mode remain stock power and then get your full 400-450 whatever you go for in sport mode?
Wouldn't need to, can do that to any MK3 but it's a bit pointless imo. The whole reason to having different boost/power settings it to cater to the conditions. So able to run ESP/TC off but then have the choice of low power up to full power if its wet etc. With my build and cams there is a possibility that the setup could do well over 450 flat out but I'd only run that at places like Spa/Silverstone etc
Oh didn't know the 250 was capable of that. Always wished my map was done like that. Would be nice to have more than 2 maps though
My 250 is that way. Great for just pottering around without sport mode then when u fancy a hooligan moment flick sports mode and theres away lol
If anyone knows someone looking for a well sorted track MK3 send them my way. Can either be sold as is, or with a working engine with recent belt service etc.
Have you thought about a mk3 mx5 then a trip to Blink Motorsport for their supercharger conversion? https://www.blinkmotorsport.com/blink-motorsport/optimized-supercharger-package/ Get them to add a set of Ohlins and big brake upgrade and you'll have an extremely capable motor. Hell, if you're a good enough driver even a fairly stock one can embarrass most things
A serious thing to mention about the MX-5. I'm only 6 foot but I couldn't sit in my mates comfortably without the roof down so I wouldn't recommend if you're 6 foot or taller.
Going to just rebuild the engine as planned but will be sticking with the hybrid for now as id just like it back out and running now to get some TD's done this year, Will still go down the big turbo route in the future but for now id rather just get it back on the road. Found a reasonable priced clutch upgrade as well so once its back together ill be heading back down to EFI for a tweak. Hopefully clear the 370bhp and should see closer to 400lbsft but will only run it higher if Chris can keep the torque curve nice and flat as it was/is. Be interesting to see what difference cams will make and should be a good like for like comparison with it still being the same turbo. Going to have the cage finished off in the meantime and look at some FRP panels to drop a bit of weight.
Doubt the engine will even be out the car by then [emoji23] You should come up for the Opentrack day at Knockhill in August
Will try and work something out, will need to do another on the way up or back, not driving 12+ hrs there and the same back
That's the plan but there's nothing around, did see there is Croft but it's the same day , no Anglesey, Oulton, there is Donington but that's £580
