R26 ball joints

Discussion in 'Car Parts For Sale' started by aarroncolley, Mar 1, 2019.

  1. Has anyone ever tackled pressing in ball joints on the R26? I tried today and chewed up the rubber on two brand new ones resulting in me just buying new wishbones from rpd. Only need the ball joints as I’m poly bushing the arms but no where sells the ball joints on there own so I can fit them tomorrow

How are you damaging the rubbers, they go in from underneath, you can cover the rubbers in washing up liquid or similar and they should slide in through the hole.

  3. I was even using silicone grease as soon as the press puts pressure on it it squashed the rubber causing it to split

That’s the after math of trying to press them in

  5. No-one (inc Renault) sells the ball joints separately. But someone smart found out that ones from a specific Espace fitted, which is what these are.

Where did you get your balljoints from?

I didn't have any trouble with mine (or at least, not with the rubber boot).

You can take the boot off if you want, the clip is a bit of a twat to get back on but its doable.

  7. I got them off a guy on eBay.

its all a learning curve :laughing: hope you get it sorted soon

  10. Don’t know why they couldn’t just do a simple bolt on design. I’ve managed to get some that are the same for a espace so I’ll give it another go saved my self £180 so fingers crossed.

I fitted the Espace ones to mine, got them from a local car factors and they were cheap, there is some part numbers on here somewhere for the Espace ones.

  12. These are the ones I fitted from EuroCarParts.

  14. Just done the second of my arms yesterday (fitting of new ball joints that is). The ones you want from euro car parts are:

Whilst I had no issues with the rubber splitting, it did need to be carefully coaxed through the wishbone hole. I’d imagine that every brand is slightly different. What I did find though, was that I needed to trim the excess rubber where it poked out from under the lower, large clip. Otherwise, I couldn’t stop it from snagging between ball joint and wishbone. Once trimmed back, all the rubber was free of the interference fit, and I could press the ball joint into position. Needed a hydraulic press for both the removal and refitting mind!
