I bought my 2010 Renaultsport Megane 250 Cup in September 2017 and just wanted to put together a progress thread to keep track of what I’ve done. It’s a fully specced Cup model with: Recaro seats RS monitor LSD DRLs Keyless Entry The only mods it had when I bought it was a mid box chop and braided brake lines. And visually the Megane letters on the boot removed and a black badge already replaced the standard silver one. Other than that it was completely standard. So here it is. I picked it up with 75k, recent cambelt, water pump, dephaser pulley and service and was good to go. So the first thing about the car was that the wheels were disgusting... and it was running on 225/40/18 tyres and it just looked a bit wrong. So I got the wheels refurbed in gloss black, found some facelift RS centrecaps to replace the Renault badge ones and put some new Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tyres in a 235 all round. Drives 100x better than with the smaller tyres. Much more comfy and holds the road amazingly. My next plans are to fit the upper power flex engine mount bush and the lower vibratechics gearbox mount. Hopefully this will tighten everything up as gear changes especially at low speeds can feel sloppy at times. Thanks for reading.
I finally got round to fitting the power flex engine mount insert. And thought I’d fit the Vibratechnics gearbox mount at the same time. Ignore the coolant splatter. Took the photo after I did the thermostat. Best modifications I’ve done to any car... EVER! Transformed the general driving quality, especially at low speeds. There is a very slight increase in cabin vibration when stationary, but it’s not even noticeable after 2 days of driving. And it’s 1000% worth it. The Megane is just nice to drive anywhere and everywhere now. It was far too clunky at low speeds with all those gear changes. Properly chuffed.
So my thermostat was playing up. So changed that.... it’s a fiddly job to do yourself. I dropped the most difficult thermostat bolt in the engine bay and spent 25 minutes looking for it. Other than that it was ok. I remember not enjoying it at all at the time. But now it’s done I’m very happy. Now my temperature gauge sits here. Slightly above half but I’m told it’s normal. And it’s comforting driving a car with a needle that doesn’t wobble side to side. I also had 10 minutes spare so I got some polish and had a quick go at cleaning my exhaust tip. Before And after
So was looking through the service history and couldn’t find a receipt for a pollen filter....ever! So this happened My workmate having a go at getting to the top nut of the clutch pedal. Finally out. As you can see. Date code on it is 2013 And it’s proper filthy. New one is in. Took about an hour, a lot of swearing, and a bruise on my forehead from headbutting a pedal. But obviously needed doing and couldn’t be happier with how fresh the air smells now ha. Still have an Airtec intercooler to fit, which I’ve had since November’s group buy on here. So that’s next. Also have a sports cat to install. Then I’ll service it before getting it remapped at Engine Dynamics at some point.
Not a job I'm looking forward to doing! How do you rate the Vredestein tyres you've got? And what sports cat have you gone for?
I tried some vreds on my car, not sure of the exact type. I thought that they were awful. The car would squirm under acceleration and the grip levels were poor. The funny thing is, I had the same make on a previous bmw and found them to be rather good....
It’s not that bad really.. I say that knowing full well I’m never doing it again ha. I love the Vredestein’s. It’s my first set of tyres on the car and find them pretty comfortable and predictable. Also in my opinion have one of the best looking sidewalls so just look the part. I’d buy again. Obviously the Michelin is the best tyre out there. But I haven’t encountered a situation yet where I feel they’ve let me down. What tyres are you using at the moment? I’ve never used the Michelin to be able to compare like for like. I have an RSTuning sports cat second hand waiting to go on.
It’s weird how some tyres feel better suited towards different cars. I’ve never experienced poor grip levels on the Megane anyway.. maybe I don’t drive hard enough, or maybe to because ive just never known anything else on the car to compare. But I genuinely feel confidence driving the car.
So my car hit a fun mileage today. And I treaded it to some wheel bolt covers because they look rusty and disgusting
I've got Michelin PS4's on at the moment, but the fronts are nearly worn out after only 8000 miles which is a bit disappointing, but it must just be a trade off with the softer compound.
You might be the perfect person to compare the difference. I’ve done 3000 miles on the Vredestein’s now and have just under 6mm left. So would probably last 12000 until properly bald maybe.
Airtec intercooler finally installed. Had it sitting around since the group buy on here back in November. View attachment 12218 Bumper off.. the clips to the stock cooler were a bit annoying. But got them off eventually. Everything else was easy, it’s just removing stuff and remembering how to put it back. View attachment 12214 Ready to go on. View attachment 12215 All installed. Thanks Luke. View attachment 12217 Looking tidy all back together. I’m going for the unmodified look, so went without the logo. Just want it to look almost standard from the outside. View attachment 12216 Time to build up the courage to fit the sports cat next.

good bit of spannering right there, the CAT will be proper task, go in from drivers wheel and cut old one out
As I’m putting a sports cat in, I am half tempted just to cut it out with no need to ever put it back in... Any other tips or problems to help me prepare? I’ll be doing it on the floor with trolley jacks and axle stands.
Probably is factory CAT is not where need sports cat to be, it’s on down pipe right up close to manifold, proper frustrating to get at
