Hoping someone may have some suggestions. Last week I had a couple of low battery warnings come up on the dash whilst driving. Had the torque app on it and the voltage dropped to 11.7 coinciding with the warnings then went back to normal. Car started fine following day, plenty of charge in battery. Had the battery off at the weekend whilst replacing the driveshaft oil seals as they were leaking. Put every thing back together and now the car wont start. The dash lights up as normal, doesnt dim, steering unlocks and can hear the fuel pump prime but the starter doesnt do anything. There's a loudish single click which im presuming is the starter solenoid but theres no starter engagement or cranking. Tried different good battery and jumping, no difference so im happy the power is there. So.... thoughts. Could the low battery warning be linked or just coincidental?? Could the starter motor have just failed ?? Maybe alternator issue but cant see how that would stop it starting when theres enough power in the battery? Wiring/earthing issue but where to start? I found this thread searching which is exactly the same issue with the end result seemingly the loom replaced. Im hoping i dont need to go to that extent. http://www.meganesport.net/communit...ery-Warning-Stop-Light-Now-cant-Start-the-Car Any suggestions/help appreciated
No Ive seen this a couple of times. Normally a bad earth lead between the battery and the gearbox. Put Jump lead between the negative on the battery and to the gearbox and see if it starts.
yea the earths are fine it seems i have a fault on the loom somewhere, i have no power to the abs unit, which throws up quite a few faults. my mechanic is on the case so hopefully he can find the issue
Make sure none of the fuses on the positive terminal are blown. Also worth backing up that main earth as it will look fine and bell out but be rotten inside.
