Gearbox for a cup has the prefix 018, you could get a Quaife diff nearly the same as original and will be a lot cheaper and life time warranty, had one in my 225 also have one in my Mercedes never had a problem with either.
A tat offtopic, but if the gearbox fails, would that automatically mean the diff is gone too? My garage used the wrong oil in my gearbox and blew up the bearings, want to know if the diff is still OK..
Hi Arno It would be hard to tell until the box is stripped, if a gear or bearing broke up and bits ended up the the diff then more than likely, what happened, did it feel lumpy driving when it went or was it just noisy
Cheapest option unless you just replaced the box with another, they go for 5-600 for a reasonable mileage one. Saves the messing about with rebuild etc but then I guess with a rebuilt box it's all fresh and new
These PK4-PF6 gearboxes from Mk2 Megane 2007 onward is prone to have 5th and 6th shaft bearing failing prematurely, A company that i could recommend by using them in the past year (geartech, kidderminster) refurb them day in and day out, and knows them by like the back of their hand as they are fitted to so many vehicle (vivaro, traffic, laguna, espace, megane 2 and 3... just to name a few) and they refurb them for the same reason almost every time, 5th and 6th shaft bearing failure. the problem is know by a constant whine in any gear, and more noticeable in 5th or 6th, it can become louder with time.
So the general consensus with the noise is it's my Diff. Including K-tec, who also gave me a quote. £1,314 for gearbox re-con (inc slave cylinder + gear oil) £210 Gen Ren Clutch kit £426 Gen Ren Flywheel, that's if I need it. I'm basically asking if these prices are 'competitive'? I understand they're a Renault specialist. They did also quote me for a gripper diff however, I'm not going to repeat that!
How did this story end? Was it the diff? I think I have the exact same issue. 2016 Megane 275 on around 13k. In warranty so booked in with Renault next week.
Not sure yet. It's going in to K-tec in a week so I'll let you know then. I'm sure of one thing though, it's not going to be cheap

Renault have just diagnosed a knackered diff bearing in my gearbox. Gearbox is being replaced under warranty thankfully. Interestingly this is the second Renault Sport gearbox bearing that I have had go. Had to change the 'box on a 172 Cup a few years ago. Is this a known weakness or have I been unlucky. I thought the boxes were robust but a bit agricultural in the Megane.
Have you rung Renault for a price on a gearbox? When mine went I got a recon box from them on a exchange basis and got some money off as i had rung Renault UK to put a claim in stating that this shouldn't be happening with it being a common fault. Pretty sure it only cost about £1000-1300. Which isn't bad from a deal I thought. Mines a R26 aswel.
I didn't think to do that when a bearing failed in my 172 Cup gearbox. It must have been around 7yrs old by the time it went so not sure I'd have got much love from Renault. Wasn't aware it was a common issue or not either. A recon 'box at a decent indy cost me about the same anyway.
Well the car is back from K-tec. I noticed the week before that the motorway noise had drastically reduced, almost to nothing, as well as the clicking noise in the vid but, it was still present. Long story short, they couldn't replicate the symptoms I'd given on their test drive and although there was a slight clicking noise while on the lift, it didn't merit stripping the box. Sooooo.....yeah, just told me to keep an eye out for it.
I'm sure I've read, somewhere, of someone's similar experience. It's not completely gone but, to go from sounding like imminent failure to barely noticeable, very odd!
A colleague of mine has the exact same noise on his 275 Cup-S. It has been diagnosed as diff, or diff bearings, but either way, it requires a box rebuild or replacement. Bearing noise can come and go as worn sections can rotate to a point where they run better, but will come back. I had the same in an old Rover 220 Turbo from a fair few years back - the diff bearings were shagged (known issue) and they would sometimes be silent and other times sound like they were going to explode. Fortunately, I was able to drive the car to the rebuilder before they did give up the ghost! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think it's the connection between the diff and the gearbox. I was convinced the LSD was knackered judging by the noise but it was the gearbox that was replaced.
