New RenaultSport Megane

Discussion in 'Megane Discussion' started by Semtax, Dec 14, 2016.

  1. I’ve been getting myself soo wound up around this recently! What I’m really after is an Elise 220, can’t afford one. So I’ve test drove a 208 gti, the pug sport edition and that was a suburb throw back to ‘old school’ hot hatch driving, tried the Clio 220, not keen. I’ve considered going back into an Integra DC5 again. Been looking at launch edition evora’s. tried the new mx-5. At the end of all this nothing feels right / better than sticking with my 265! I’m leaning more towards some tuning for what I’ve already got now!

  2. Loving my 265, the BC coil over upgrade was so worth it, off for a remap in March and that will be it as a package for me.

  3. Yeah, I was hoping/waiting for a group buy coming up on RS tuning maps.....!

  4. I am booked in to EFI, enough said

  5. How do you find running the bc coilovers on the road compared to stock.

  6. They are more pliant than they were on the mk2, nowhere near as chashy, i can't complain one bit about them, well maybe one thing is rear adjustment, i paid for the extender adjusters and they didn't want to move after 4 months so they have now been removed.
I drive on the road with dampers set on 5 from soft, on the track if it's dry then 20 clicks, it's not my daily but do drive it to and from tracks.

  7. I agree about BMW reliability. I have just had 2 in a row and would not own without warranty.

Re M2 I think the original M2 will be cracking buy as price is pushed down by Competition with early cars nearing £30k. Can still be tuned to 400 bhp which is probably enough in RWD car. In std form bhp/tonne of Completion & original M2 are similar as Completion put on weight.

A rich man buys a brand new BMW, a richer man buys a used BMW :tearsofjoy:

German cars always feel soulless to me, something like the Alpine or Lotus have a look more character.

  9. Earlier motor is not as strong, though

Nor is it a "true" M car engine, as much as a boosted lump can be anyway.

  11. those days are all but gone..look at the 4 cylinder lumps in porkers now.
its still a M3 engine in that M2,and will be savagely fast even mildly tuned.

Would you pay over 50k for a car with a universal 1.8 in it like the Alpine?

When the performance is the same if not better than the M2 then yes I would

I know this and wasn't slating it as such. Both engines are crackers, S55 is brutal with some tweaks, even standard they are pretty savage. Nice to see Porsche sticking with the flat 6 in the new GT4 though, keep the dilution for the lesser models

Personally don't care about the capacity, if the engine performs well, sounds decent and revs well then I don't think capacity really matters, especially when you have smaller engines making better power and torque than older larger capacity lumps, people that get hung up on engine capacity make me laugh.

S54 and S65 are still the ultimate M engines though. S14 is the OG and sounds incredible mind you.

Engine size and power personally doesn't bother me, and I think most on this forum would agree. Otherwise they bought the wrong car :tearsofjoy: Cars built for handling are much more fun IMO

  15. Thats why im looking at getting a caterham, the fun level in those is on a completely different level!

  16. I just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth since I have the OG M2. All the running gear is M3/M4 apart from the adaptive suspension. (Passive suspension as in the M2 comp)

I agree the engine is not the S55 twin turbo, but the N55 with S55 pistons and don't quote me i think the crank as well.

The low down and mid range torque and handling is what makes this a proper drivers car. Yes it doesn't have the S55 engine which is capable of 500bhp plus just with a stage 1 map or tuning box. BMW chose to badge it an M which is good enough for me and rated as one of the best since the E46 M3.

  17. it is amazing that BMW`s best result ever in Evo magazines car of the year was second with the E46 M3.
M2 did very well this year in the test.
They really seem to love that Fiests a ST with the new 3 pot.
Sometimes i think brown envelopes have exchanged hands in regards to Evo and Ford.
The outgoing ST was ok to drive, but nothing really special.

  18. I've come across two Evoras on track days recently and they are, and I'm being polite here, not very fast. I realise it's not the only factor but I would be pretty annoyed spending £30k on a Lotus only to be slower than a track day novice in a ten year old £5k Renault.

  19. Which car gives you the better feeling? Thats what is important.

Not saying that a lotus is more fun than a renault by the way as I havent driven either of the cars you mentioned.

  20. I don't really understand why this thread has rnend up discussing the M2. Hardly relevant to the new Megane given the cost difference lol

  21. If you go back a page or so, someone was looking at getting an M2 but is now just getting the renault.

  22. various reasons!...was included in evos car of the year test with the megane,
and craigs cancellation of the M2, in favor of a megane.

  23. Who actually has a new 280. Anyone given there opinions or photo's in this thread?

Had a look at How Many Left & it shows 5 RS Megane Auto's registered in 2018. May be more manuals hidden in with other models.

Can pick up a near new M2 for like 40k or a slightly older one for low 30s, Fully spec'd MK4 Trophy is like 39k, madness if you choose the Megane imo.

  25. It’s very hard to be excited about the Meg IV RS, hence all threads tend to divert to discussions about better alternatives

  26. New v new on finance locally is around £200 a month difference after discounts.
Due to a change in circumstances it’s madness for me to fork out that money on a M2.
It might be madness to fork out that much on a Megane, but £200 a month is £200 a month and I thought the 280 Cup felt like it would be a better day to day drive than my Cup-S.
Will let you all know my thoughts when the Trophy arrives in late April / early May.

  27. Presume running costs would make a difference too!

  28. True, could easily be £300 a month when considering servicing, insurance, fuel, etc.

The M2 will also be worth more than 10p when resale time comes [emoji23]

A used MK4 in a couple years would be a nice cheap UK road car tbf

  30. I did. Gave some thoughts on it a few pages back.

There are quite a few with them over at the RenaultSport forums, and quite a few still waiting for theirs to arrive. Renault still seem to be struggling to deliver cars to customers.

That's my thinking, hence I'll wait a few years and get a well specced one.

It'll be funny watching MK4 owners twitch when it comes to selling, if they think MK3 values dropped just wait til they see the MK4 [emoji23]

  33. I'd imagine most bought it on PCP, so GFV is already set. 11.5k after 4 years.

  34. I wonder if anyone is paying list price for these as MK3s were usually sold with huge discounts. Where as an M2 comp I would expect there to be very little discount.

  35. The RS cars hold their value quite well compared to many other cars, especially normal renaults!

    You're joking right?

  37. Nope

  38. Dont think many new Trophys will be sold, edging towards 35/36k specced up a bit, mad price, and not any decent pcp deals

  39. Certain models are doing ok .R26,s And R26R And Last Of the Line mk3,s
