Tel’s r26 track toy

Discussion in 'Megane Projects' started by TelB, Jan 2, 2019.

  1. So I signed up to the forum the other month and have just been reading and checking other people’s posts.

So thought I should start a thread myself.....

So after being a bit of a VAG group fan for a good few years and having a Apr stage 2 s3 saloon, stage 2 Apr cupra 280 and finally a Suzuka grey rs3 8p I’ve ended up with a pretty well spec’d for track r26.

Found my self suddenly working all over the country every week for work instead of London like I have been for years. i purchased a van and I found the rs3 was just sitting in the garage and wasn’t being used, so decided to sell up. I knew I’d get the itch still for something fast and wanted to buy something cheaper and more suited to track days, so within a few weeks I was looking at cars again.

So after endless conversation with a friend, Matt west (I know he’s bound to be on here somewhere, sorry for being annoying lol) I kept finding meganes for sale and I missed out on a few until he pointed me in the direction of this car.

I message the owner who was fairly local to me, planned to go see it and ended up buying it there and then.

    Some of the spec

    Bc coilovers
    Scorpion rs240 decat
    Ktec/piper cat back
    Pro race 1.3’s with ar1’s
Brembo hc discs with ds1.11 pads on the front and ds2500 rears
    R26r Carbon spoiler
    Lux arm rest
    Corbeau clubsport buckets
    Corbeau 6 point harnesses
Ttv single mass fly wheel and r26r clutch
polybushed engine mounts and front handling pack
Sw motorsport half cage in white
    Sabelt Renault sport steering wheel
    630 injectors
    Air tec intercooler
    Engine dynamics map making 270bhp - 280 ft-lb
    Forge recirc valve
New front hubs, ball joints and grease bolts.

That was pretty much the spec when I got the car a couple months ago.

    Since then I’ve purchased

    R26 wheels and new ad08r’s

    Serviced and changed the coolant

Installed a gauge pod with oil temp, oil pressure and coolant temp on top of the dash and I replaced an exciting boost gauge on the door that I didn’t like so it matches the gauges

Fitted an oil cooler infront of the intercooler, then decided to move it again to the passengers side next to the intercooler

    Fitted an itg intake

New TB vacume hose as the existing 1’s clips were broken

New intake hose in black and replaced a few other hoses in black too
    Forge vacume clips

    Ordered new wheel arch liners
Ordered new bumper brackets as it isn’t fitted very well

Jet washed and degreased the engine and developed a misfire after so I have 4x genuine coil, spark plugs On order.

    Ordered new gearbox oil.

Going to clean up the engine bay some more with a wire brush when I swap the plugs and coils. Hopefully comes out better or I’ll most likely get the spray paint out.

There’s a couple of dents on the doors
and some paint peeling on the wing so I’ll be either getting them sorted or on the hunt for some decent Second hands.

This was a car I said I wasn’t going to be spending any money on yet and was just going to enjoy, which like always with my cars never happened ‍♂️

So far I’m booked for brands hatch on the 20th of jan, spa in March and will most likely be heading to the ring after spa.
I’m hoping to be pretty active with track days this year I’m aiming for 1 a month if work and the dates play ball.

I don’t usually post on forums, more of a reader so if anyone could point me in the right direction how to post pictures, it would be much appreciated

    Hi Tel and welcome
That looks a pretty well sorted car you have there, i'm going to the ring on the 22/23rd April for a track day and again on the 19/20th May, did 4 days at Spa last year so thought i would do this year at the ring :laughing:

There are a few of us that do track days together, we will put posts in the track day section when and where.

What part of the country are you in

  4. Thanks mate, pretty happy with it so far. Just a few other bits an pieces to get it to a standard I’m Happy with, taking the slowly but surely approach now. Need to just go have some fun in it first.

I missed out on going to the ring last year but I’ve been a few times the years before.

I was looking at the ring track day but missed out by the time I actually decided to book it with a friend. Not long after Spa was mentioned so I booked on that straight away. 19th of May is my birthday so I might go ring the weekend after as its bank holiday then.

Ill keep an eye out on the track day section.

I’m from south east London north west Kent border, brands hatch is my local roughly about 20mins away

I have been a few times to the ring now, track days so much better than the weekends now.

Yes it did sell out fast, less than 48hrs i was told :laughing::laughing:
Think there are still spaces for the DN21 event :sunglasses:, wont be busy on a bank holiday :openmouth:

I'm in Plymouth so there isn't really any tracks close to me :sob::sob:

That looks great, any idea what splitter that is?

  7. Thats a lovely car, spotted that for sale the other week, damn good spec

  8. I honestly have No idea mate, looks like some sort of universal foam type splitter cut and just screwed on

  9. Thanks mate, few bits and pieces to sort out... couple of dents and that but it will all get sorted

  10. Hi Tel and welcome

Similar set up as mine. Same power and mapped by engine dynamics.
    Good fun on track.
I go along with Ian and a few others. And going to the ring in April. Hopefully catch up at a track day later in the year
