How long? Engine oil/Filter and Gearbox oil change

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Stock265cup, Dec 26, 2018.

  1. Going to change the engine oil and filter along with the gearbox oil on my 265 cup tomorrow, how long should I expect this to take? Will be doing it on axle stands and haven’t done it myself before as car has been serviced at Renault previously.

  2. Get the car up to normal running temperature first, take the car out for a run so the gearbox oil gets warm too. Get the car up on stands and remove the under tray. Drain both the gearbox and engine oil together while it’s still warm. Go for a cup of tea! When drained, refit the drain plugs, swap the oil filter and refill both with correct oil. Shouldn’t take more than an hour including removing the under tray.

  3. Depends how good you are on the spanners. Couple of hours max. Spent most the time cleaning the oil off everything once you remove the filter in its stupid place.

  4. Plenty of blue roll under the filter sorts that. No mess.

  5. Cheers for the info, was intending to warm it up first. Would say I’m pretty good on the spanner’s as mechanical Engineer for a living so would hope so, ha. My old man will be helping me out who is Engineer also so I can’t see there being a problem just wanted to know a rough time or if there are any unforeseen quirks with the Megane.
