Just found this whilst having a mooch on the internet. on the Renault forum there saying initial 'May' orders on a manual will come with a free cup chassis pack upgrade. limited supply offering a good price there.
I went into a dealership on Saturday. Guy said the trophy is coming out end of the year and going to be 300bhp. Only info he had really, he said they’re not doing recaros anymore but he might of just been talking about the normal version. Unfortunately didn’t have one in to test drive but he’s going to let me know soon as they get there’s in next month. Tempted with this one as it’s such a good price but I know soon as the trophy comes out I could end up regretting it
I've got a 280 Cup on order. It's all a bit up in the air at the moment. Renault haven't fully clarified the option packs (they haven't communicated the options well to the dealers and it's causing confusion). They've run out of black 19" wheels and it seems there might be supply issues with the RS Monitor Expert. On top of this they still haven't got any demo cars available. We'll see how things go over the next week or so, but if they're unable to give me a build date soon I'll be asking for my deposit back.
That’s not good mate. It is typical though of Renault. Just imagine how good it would be if they were actually good at their job of delivering a product to market. Totally shambolic and I know how you must feel. The excitement of a new car then deflated when it starts to fall apart. Hope it’s resolved soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah it's a bit frustrating. I can assume it's just a case of the marketing department being like "We'll release the car on the weekend", while the technical teams are like "We're not ready yet". Marketing reply: "Do it anyway!" So yeah, nothing ready even after a big press release! My dealer is away until Friday, so I'll give him a call then. I've managed to establish some things about the options from the RS Forum that they haven't told the dealers, so hopefully we can sort things out. Cant fault the dealer, he's been great, it's just Renault themselves that have been useless this time. Really looking forward of getting back into a (bigger) manual car. I'm bored of the Clio!
Heard some poor stories around ordering the Up Gti. Mostly the ever extending delivery dates. The car is defo on the wish list as it looks an absolute blast.
With all this hassle actually getting the new model, what's the spares and warranty repair situation going to be like !? I'll stick with what I've got.
The usual supply and demand issue. The lack of honesty doesn't help from dealers with delivery dates. We all expect issues but sometimes the lack of honesty damages the experience, especially when spending a significant amount of money. I get the flip side thou, if Currys said it will take 12 months to deliver your new tv, you would be telling em to jog on. I don't think some car manufacturers understand the emotions some people have around cars. It's more than a chunk of metal that goes from A to B.
Finally got a build date for it, 6 July, with delivery around the start of August. Had to swap the black wheels for diamond cut but it finally all confirmed then! Full spec is: Flame Red Cup chassis Bose Audio Alcantara seats and wheel Bi material brakes 19" diamond cut wheels Rs Monitor Expert Happy to get a date at last and looking forward to it finally arriving
From the RUK forum!!! Demand for new Megane R.S. has been unprecedented across Europe, which means we find ourselves in a position whereby supply cannot keep up with demand. This combined with the transition to WLTP versions from NEDC has unfortunately created a 'perfect storm'. So we are clear: 1. If you order Liquid Yellow or Volcanic orange, this vehicle won't be built before September, meaning you'll get it in October/ November+. This is because our factory is maxed out on these two colours. 2. Black 19" alloy wheels are currently restricted - again this is because demand has exceeded supply. Diamond Cut alloy wheels (which look fantastic by the way!) and the standard wheels are OK. IF you want black wheels it will be built as above 3. R.S. Monitor Expert - Can’t be ordered before September production, but you can specify R.S. Monitor, and the data acquisition box can be retro-fitted as an accessory. Dealers will begin to see their demonstrators towards the end of June/start of July, as they are also impacted by the above. Not an ideal situation but I promise the car is worth the wait
So you might aswell wait for the trophy version then! Diamond cut wheels are the worst invention ever obviously black will be better imo Hate seeing decent colours like orange liquid yellow and white with silver diamond cut wheels it shouldn’t be allowed imo.
Makes you wonder what's said during the meetings at renault HQ about the launch. It's a Renault sport Megane, of course demand will be high. Seems like most, if not all manufacturers don't plan enough. Crazy how a single car hasn't been delivered yet the manufacturer are placing constraints on the options. I don't know, maybe it's just me
It creates a good buzz, people want it more because of it. I would still never buy a car that I hadnt driven, thats just mad.
Actually saw one of these on the road yesterday. It was yellow. Got to say, it looked great, quite squat and aggressive in person.
I'm so glad I can't afford one yet - that just looks like hell. I guarantee most people will have to compromise or wait for an eternity to get what they want.
An article is up on piston heads with a suspected Trophy testing at the ring. New Megane Trophy spied at the 'Ring | PistonHeads https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-eurocars/new-megane-trophy-spied-at-the-ring/38229
I think the cup version looks fantastic in that yellow with those black wheels. Really striking. I actually prefer it to the burnt orange. Hmmm I wonder if the deals are good should get one of these as a daily and ace the R for the weekends?
Damn I was planning a M2 next year. Not sure now. I quite like the new Megane. White manual 18' Cup, cloth no other options. Ready for track on NS2Rs and pads. Rinse and repeat basically.
I’m the other way round. I was planning a Trophy next year, until I saw the announcement for the M2 Competition. Had a lengthy test in the outgoing M2 today and have ordered a Competition. Delivery estimated March.
funny you mention the M2, i've always fancied one and there was a cracker getting booted round knockhill last night and it went like a train and sounded the dogs dooda's...the competition will be epic...I've another year to think about the Mk4 now that I've spent cash on my 275.
I was planning on waiting for the new Megane but with the constant delays I decided to bite the bullet and jumped into 2018 M2 LCI.
I think you’ll find a substantial variance in cost between the running of AN M2 and a Megane RS. I love the BM’s but they’re in the next league of expense when it comes to running and maintenance of one. I wonder how much faster it would be too, probably not much it around track although I don’t know for sure!!
A standard M2 was taking part in SLS at knockhill last weekend and I think it was in the 57s which is really impressive.
1200 mile run in service was £300 next service switches to variable which when I last checked the computer another 15k. I don't think the cost is anything like e46 m3 but I've not yet enquired what the 2nd service might set me back. If you looking to mod M2 exhausts/ catted down pipe twice the cost then some. I can't comment about track performance as the Megane such a great handling car. Outright pace in a straight line and in gear acceleration M2 is very quick...in the wet it's scary and can't access the power due to the car lighting up the tyres 1st 2nd 3rd.
Interesting feedback. I have another year or so to see where the market goes for both cars (I would buy 2 year old M2 or new Megane probably). It's a nice problem to have. I would not be overly bothered about running costs as a road car but this will also be my track day car and the delta may be significant in terms of (proper) pads cost and tyres. I know I can get away with PFC Z on the Megane assuming the calipers haven't changed but for they are not available for the M2 so its RS29 or nothing really. Tyres will be a twice as expensive at least - 18 235 VS much wider 19s and less choice of track compound. The variable servicing will go mental after even 2 Ring laps!!
Got a guy who lives round here in a bright blue M2 who drives it like a lunatic. I can hear him coming from a mile away! The 240i is actually faster on some in gear times than the M2, if you look at its acceleration stats.
Its not about raw speed though, if it was none of us would be here we would all be driving tuned up golf r. I was on a goldtrack track day with a new M2 when it came out, the guy was properly sideways often, looked like he was having a whale of a time. I don't mean drifting it btw but back end stepping out when on the limit and catching bumps etc. He was braking pretty late and hard as well over a decent length session, all in all properly going for it and probably the fastest car on track that day. All stuff you ain't doing in a non M without spending lots of money. Honestly it looked like one of the most enjoyable track day saloon cars I have seen in a long time since the CSL. Complete opposite to something like the Mustang that kept holding everyone up on that same day. I really wanted to love one of those but it just looked like a wallowing whale on track. No M2 is proper kit. Its way up on my wishlist but a bit out of my price range, current want is to get the piggy bank up to 25 grand so I can get myself a Gen II Cayman S.
You're not helping me either, £30K would be putting it into something to aim for territory. That particular car looked mega btw, it was white with BMW motorsport blue and red pinstripes along the length of the car. Only one I have seen like that in the flesh. Still though 987.2 Cayman S has the benefit of a proper sports car driving position and soundtrack, if I was to get one it would soon after be on its way over the Belgium for the Carnewal exhaust.
Yes I ran a 987.1 Boxster a few years ago when they were very cheap...really good car although the mid-engine thing wore out in the end - not very lively although if you haven't done it then I would still recommend it.
I love the m2 but the seats are not special enough for the car. They look cheap and nasty in my opinion. Think the salient point is that the Megane is such a good package it’s hard to beat for the money. The R I’ve just bought is a rampant weapon, I can’t think I’d need anymore power for the road, certainly not if I want to keep my licence lol! It’s easy to scare yourself in it and provides plenty of exhilaration. Wouldn’t know where to go next, I’m thinking caterham and a daily clio sport or something. Just back on M cars, tyres and brakes are the expensive items when it comes to replacements!
PS. I also looked at caymans and early Porsche’s but again they have many issues or at least known issues that are hideously expensive to address and I couldn’t deal with that aggro!
