I'm having issues changing gear - the gearstick does not return to a "neutral" position', gear selection is problematic and feels horrible. I just had the gearstick/ cable assembly replaced and it' exactly the same!!! (and that wasn't cheap!). I'm assuming it's either the shifter mechanism (I think it has a quickshift fitted) or the gearbox? Any ideas? Thanks Paul
The problem is usually at the selector end of the process not the stick or cables on these. There's a nylon bush that the pin goes into, this swells over time giving you a terrible shift and when it's hot it doesn't self centre as the pin has too much friction. The cables need popping off the ballstuds on the selector and the Bush need reaming out to give the pin space to move. The heat soak from the bay swells the Bush up loads. It's a 30 min job if you do it in situ. All I did was whip the pin out, filed it down and cleaned it. Whilst it was out I filed some of the Bush out as well. People do remove the selector assembly to drill it out but this way was way quicker as sometimes, like in my case, the selector wouldn't budge. You'll need to remove the air box, battery and ecu ou the way to gain access.
The red is the Bush with the pin going into it. The blue is the ball studs with the cables popped off. To pop off the cable it's simply squeeze the plastic tabs in and pull up, don't drop them as they will slide out easily. There's a friction fit type washer that needs sliding off carefully so you can re use it. Once this is off the pin will slide out and you'll be able to sort the problem out. Tbh if it's not this I'll be amazed and you'll be even poorer as it'll be an internal gearbox problem...
Fantastic. i always thought it was a bush inside the selector that you need to do. so this is a lot easier. ill be a very happy man if it sorts it as its a nightmare atm.
My god done it yesterday....What a difference. Used a drimel extetion and honed out the bush slightly and cleaned up the shaft. Wish I done this ages ago. Used to put me off driving it. Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
