Remap advice...

  1. Ok, I'm going to see Paul at RStuning end of the month for a stage 2 map!

    Having looked at forums, and a friends experience, I understand the standard injectors struggle on a stage 2? Is it worth getting 630cc injectors to be on the safe side? Or just run the standard ones?

  2. If I were you, I would speak to Paul. He is a nice guy and is happy to give advice, just give him a phone. It will be the best advice as to what you need, and what is safe at stage 2. :smile:
     
  3. Will do, just thinking I'm paying for a stage two and if the power has to be turned down because of the standard injectors (which I think need replacing anyway) I'll be a bit gutted!
     
  4. Normally to be safe a uprated intercooler would be fitted as well.not all do..but i would if you are pushing the engine this far.
     
  5. I was under the impression that 630cc injectors are a must for stage 2.

  7. Standard injectors are pretty much maxxed out for stage 2..got any weak ones,which the megane is notorious for..trouble.
    I would also be concerned,as has been covered many times..the standard internals are on the limit at over 280hp/300lb/ft...

    Its your choice.
     
  8. Get 630s put in as mine were on 98% duty before fitting full 3 inch system fitted 630s and had map tweaked

  10. Its the torque that kills them , not the power.

    You can run "stage 2" without the 630cc injectors. I am , and have been for 18000 miles.

    Speak to Paul about it, he knows what he is on about.

    A lot of people overlook the health of the standard Fuel Pump. I've seen a number of cars melting number 1 cylinder (gearbox end, furthest from fuel rail input). The flow rate of the standard deteriorates with age, causing number 1 to lean out.

    I think a new standard pump and injectors would be ok for a stage 2, however... I would much rather put a new standard pump and 630cc injectors.
     
  12. Sorry to jump on your thread mate im going for a stg 1 in febuary is it worth putting on a cat back before then as its something i plan to do in the future or is not going to make much difference ?
     
  13. Always do mods before mapping, no brainer. The map is calibrated to your car specifically with what it's got there and then..
     
  14. Thats what i thought im looking at getting a new filter itg or similar and do the airbox mod and if i can afford it ill have the exhaust too ktec 3 inch or milltek unsure
     
  15. I've called today, they said they aren't really needed unless I was going for a decat/hybrid! I'm still in two minds whether to get them! As I know I need new injectors!
     
  16. I don't like the tip shape on the milltek :smile:. 3" for powerrrr!

    Decat had huge gains on mine without fmic or injectors!! You wont need them + hybrid unless your going to tickle 300 bhp (or do tons of track time) imo.
     
  17. My mate is upgrading his injectors and going the same day, he has just replaced his around 7k ago and it's running fine, so might just get them!

I think ill be happy with the stage one dont think ill push it any further what should i expect to see i have a dyno printout from the previous owner that shows 242 bhp i thought the megs were 230 standard id be happy if i got near 270bjp and i believe ill be limited to 300 tourqes to stop me blowing it up lol
     
  19. I took mine for a run and come out with 264bhp but the torque was really low! That was totally standard, only added the fmic and cat back! I'd be happy with anything above that and much more torque! Lol
     
  20. You'll love the torque after a map, literally leave it in high gear and it pulls no matter what so you can be dead lazy for overtakes :wink:.
     
  21. Mines only running 250 lbft! Think it just has a generic map on tbh
     
  22. Nobody knows for sure..its the most likely cause.
    Pushing any engine past its `safe` standard is always a gamble.

    And f4rt lumps are not known for strength..the rods/bolts are particularly suspect,and blamed for most failures.
    However not many have let go..i know of a stage 2 that went at not much over idle revs...so this had nothing to do with torque.

    Its luck of the draw.
     
  23. I think this is why I'll stay stage one I don't fancy it going it's pretty fast for me anyway I'm only going stage one as I got hundred pound off can't resist a bargain
     

  24. I disagree.

    The torque at the low end coming in so strongly kills them. Thats my opinion based on talking to people in the know. If you shift the power curve around you can often prevent the damage to a point

    The stage 2 that went just over idle must have been a suspect engine. They dont suddenly let go whilst doing 1750rpm. What went ? rod bend ?

    There is no "safe" standard. Standard power is often reduced for political reasons ( did you know Renault made a map on the original 225 that has as much power at the Clio v6 255 but they changed it as didnt want to take sales away ? ) or for mass market reasons such as the car is sold in a country where the fuel grade is poor so changed parameters and reduced power.
     
  25. There are so many parameters for failure..bad map/weak rods/pistons etc.
    250`s are now fitted with stronger pistons..for 250hp..much lower than most tuned previous genaration meganes
    Ktec maps can have 330+lb/ft...hhmmm

    I have read endless threads on this in the past,including stage 1`s that go, in all kinds of scenarios`s

    But i do agree that a big slug of torque is going to put big load on those weak rods that are fitted as well to 182`s,so possibly the
    rod had been designed to handle 150lb/ft..not 300..

    The fact remains,you increase the power,you increase the load on the internals..pay your money take your chance.

  26. No , they are dished to reduce the compression ratio.

    The head on the 250 is also different. It has a larger volume.

    The turbo is different on the 250 , its slightly larger and delivers the torque differently.

    The people I have spoken to havent had a bad map , or piston issues. Its been rods every time.

    Ktecs cars could be mapped to 330ibft , or there rollers might not be the same as others. Ill phrase it like this - I would trust Pauls maps and rollers over any other.

    Not trying to start and arguement here - I have just done some research into what causes the failure. Its torque , no two ways about it. Its a strong likelyhood its down to the way its delivered. This is also corroborated by fact that more cars that have decats have failed than not. All run big spikey torque curves. Mileage doesnt seem to affect the cars, some engines going at 3000mi.

    The 250 engine is lower comp , VVT , and a larger turbo. Thats how it runs the torque.
