New RenaultSport Megane

  1. Yes its cost saving. Which is a shame for those who want a 3 door.

  2. 5 doors would look better with discreet door handles so it still looks like a 3 door.

  3. The 5 doors looks fine.
It’s not like the mk3 is an amazing looking car.

  4. The design department for the Lamborghini Urus could have done with a man like you. Lol.

  5. I don't agree - the Clio RS has this and looks awful. None petrolheads regularly think its a 3 door, but it still looks awful.

  6. Ford are still ploughing ahead with the Fiesta in 3-door. Admittedly a segment below the Megane but still a hot-hatch in ST trim I think we'd agree?

In fact, because Renault don't offer anything that piques my interest any longer, that's where I'll be headed. I've just ordered a ST-Line as a stop gap until the mk8 ST is released.

  7. Enjoy your Ford.

  8. At least the ST engine will be more reliable than the RS engine

Yeah, Because all the previous RS engines have been historically unreliable?

Hopefully Ford fit the right gasket to the engine....

  11. I'm quite excited to try the new ST. It looks good. It's going to be really interesting to see what the three cylinder engine is like.

You're right, that segment still has a couple of three-door options but, with the Clio and Polo now five-door only, I think the days are probably numbered for three-doors in that class too.

    This will have potential

  13. The more I see it, the more I like it

  14. Too much porn on this site, it hurts me to see so many RS in one place, Very nice car indeed, i wish i had a job close to home so i could get a petrol car like this

  15. That silver one is lovely. Really highlights the cars extra width. Is silver a no cost colour option?

  16. There's a glowing review in Evo this month.

They're comparing it to the Civic Type R....."it'll be one if the closest and most thrilling battles of 2018"

  17. .

  18. Its nice but it's BIG. I do a lot of weekend hoons/drives in the country including Wales an Scotland and even my old RS265 felt a bit big for some of those roads and this is even bigger. It the size of the CTR and that is not small. Its good for practicality but...

Sadly that is the inevitable consequences of ever wider track width in order to improve ride and handling.

  20. yep..its massively wider than mk3..Its 60mm wider than a standard mk4..
which in basic form is already wider than the mk3 RS.
    40mm wider on the back.

  21. Evos cover is massively misleading.
Gives the impression of a comprehensive review..but you actually get just a few pages, with a limited road test.
It does seem though, that the new hydraulic bumpstops are a revelation, in regards to its ability to soak up bumps,
without the need for mega expensive adaptive dampers.
The rear wheel steer, also seems to help considerably with its road holding ,and turn in.

And all this before the trophy shows up..looking very good handling wise.
10% stiffer set up for the cup version.
They even quite like the engine..Has Nissan GTR style coatings on the cylinders, and twin scroll turbo.

Only the auto box again, seems to be off the pace.

  22. Nice pic this...

  23. Seems they all got the same test conditions meaning none of the tests so far are comprehensive. I'm shocked you think a magazine would mislead you though....:tearsofjoy:

I'm not convinced the auto is that bad. Some said the paddles were set a bit high but I had a Lotus Evora which used a std Toyota box but with their programming and it was great. How Renault can't make a better one using their own double clutch box is beyond me. For daily driving the auto would be perfect and I loved the paddleshift boxes with flat upshifts and blips (if this does it too) on the downshift.

  24. Indeed, its as big as an old 5 Series BMW now. A friend has a new CTR with all the mods and its just massive. Great in a track despite the weight. One thing I love about the R26 is the size, its fits perfectly well on the road.

I'd love this new one but only for a daily driver.

Something like a deal on the 208 GTi by PS, next gen Fiesta ST etc. probably make much more sense as a road car. The change in size is really stark, we had a 207 at the same time as my R26 and there wasn't much in it size and weight wise. I have seriously thought about the 208 but its just a shame they couldn't have given it more power. The latest Civic is huge. These are also the same reasons why last year I bought a Freelander II and wouldn't consider the recent gen Disco/RR, they are just too much, to big and heavy for our country roads. The Freelander II is more or less identical size inside to the RR classic.

  26. yep i live in devon.
If i had the new renaultsport megane on our lanes..most of it would be missing after a week!
Especially in the summer, when i have holiday makers coming towards me,
with expressions of horror on there face,as they believe the lanes to be one way..hence why they are positioned in the middle of the fkn road!.
many a time,i have missed them by a fag paper.

Luckily we have fewer grocks on our roads in north Dorset but the farming means roads covered in mud for half the year. They don't seem to understand that mud=no grip so tonking down these little lanes at 60 is more dangerous than 120 on the motorway.

If I had the money it would be helicopter all the way.

  28. another reason i wont buy a nice new car.
drive in on the shitty lanes for 1 mile..a car that looks like ari vatinens been driving it.

I bought my missus a lovely swift sport..1 year later..its a fkn rolling mud covered, bashed up inside/out skip..makes me cry..

  29. i got a wider trailer to get the mk3 on, will i need a new even wider trailer for a mk 4?

  30.
  31. Manual £27,495
    EDC £29,195
    Cup Chasis £1500
    19’s £950

    Keenly priced.

  32. So £29k for the car that you would really want

  33. Where is this info from? I think thats good pricing and will maybe make me think twice about modding mine right now and wait.

  34. Just spotted it and the deal of free cup chassis upgrade if ordered at launch in May on a manual.....deary me.....tempted...but the trophy is what i really want. Must resist lol

  35. Cracking deal, if you aren’t willing to pay the premium or wait for the Trophy.

  36. I know, makes me think jump in on this, get a spec that I'm happy with, then run that until the trophy-r come out in a couple of years.....serioulsy tempted. Registered my interest for it. Been swithering about chopping mine in for a while, but nothing out there floats my boat, but this has got my interest up. Had mine 2.5 years now and its time I think. The only downer would be the trophy pricing if its as keen with akra and ohlins..

  37. Is there any details on the Trophy? We don’t get it till May next year the dealer tells me. We get the ‘normal’ one with Cup pack next month.

I’m assuming Trophy will have cup chassis, recaros, Akrapovic and 2 Piece rotors?
