Best Brake Options for Mk3?

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by Mark_RS, Mar 16, 2018.

  1. I need to replace my front discs and pads, going to replace rear pads too but leave the rear discs for now.

What is the best combo for mostly road with some track use? I'm not heavy on the brakes at all. I was thinking two piece Reyland fixed fronts (weight saving...does anyone know how much?) but if the weight saving isn't over 1kg a side, stock will do. Pad wise I was thinking Pagid RS29 but the price is silly. Ferodo do SD2500 for the rear and DS1.11 or something for the front? Sound good?

Not touching EBC and don't want stock...

    Stock discs are fine, honestly.

Pads I'd have a look at some PF Z Rated

  3. I know most/all of the under8 Ring cars are stock setup. Just thinking of weight advantage only. PF Z Rated? Will check them out.

I know what your ethos with yours is all about so no doubt you'll end up with a lighter 2 piece disc anyway, For me personally i see no benefit to them LOL.

Yeah they seem to be a pad that people are raving about, Sounds like they will suit your needs as well going by how you dscribe them. Id always suggest starting at the lesser aggressive compounds and working up if they still anti enough for you. Too many chuck in aggressive pads then cant actually use them fully due to tyres etc.

  5. My money no object approach has been adjusted ever so slightly now I have the Trophy to sort out...I've mailed PF on their discs and pads, waiting for a response.

  6. The weight saving by the way on the PF discs versus stock is huge! It's almost 3kg a side

Save your money and get plain disc's and pf z's, job done :sunglasses:

  8. If you haven't already, a lithium ion battery will save you over 15kg and can be had for £250. I know they say rotational mass is more noticeable. If you run the 2 piece rotors you can't run 17 inch wheels

  9. Running 18" rims Danny and already have a liteblox 1kg battery

  10. I vaguely remember weighing my PF 2 piece discs & STD discs & they were something like 2 kg lighter than std ( each).

  11. Yeah, stock is 9.9kg a side, the PF are 7.38kg each iirc.

Expensive way to save a couple kilos when stock discs are only 120 a set LOL

  13. Not sure why he is trying to save weight, when its not a dedicated track car as such, and he will gain nothing from the weight saving

  14. Where you getting them at a £120 a set, cheapest I've seen is 200 for the plain disc.

Mine come from Germany, Just search the part no 09.A752.11 and you will find loads of options at various prices, May be a bit higher or lower now due to the BGP being so weak against the Eur mind you

  17. Yeah, sometimes your better off knowing the part number as half the time it will say not compatible but we know it fits.

  18. Not sure I get this comment Mikey? That's like saying a GT3 RS is pointless surely

  19. Very true Jamie, I'm running out of weight saving jobs though...I know, I need help :worried:

  20. A gt3 rs weighs 1350kg 500hp. What's your weigh now Mark

  21. Something to aim for  The Meg is 1240kg and 350hp. Weight will end up at 1150kg with cage and same power.

  22. I know they are identical as Renault would sell you for double the price. But they seem to wear out quicker on some cars ... how's your experience so far?

Seem to wear about the same as the OEM grooved i ran before, Even with aggressive pads i didn't really see much wear on them from Spa and have done that and around 10k since then and they have barely worn. Ill know for sure in the coming weeks once i get back out to Knockhill
