Flywheel advise

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by JBLACK, Mar 1, 2018.

  1. Hi All,

I think i may be in the start if having issues with my dual mass fly wheel. I been advised to revert this back to the single mass fly wheel from the R26. Apparently they are very noisy and rattly.

Can someone advised what i should do to replace /upgrade this and also a good clutch.

i currently own a MK3 cup chassis 265 megane with 14k on the clock

That is a very low mileage for a duel mass to go wrong, single mass is only noisy while starting, no difference when the engine is running

  3. I know it very low Hench why i'm confused. Renault is saying they can have a look and strip it down but if it indicates wear and tear il get charged for them taking it apart and putting it back. I dont know what to do really.

I will all depend on what you will be doing with the car, are you going to remap it, track it etc, if you are then i would put a single mass flywheel in and an uprated clutch in to future proof it, if it's only a daily then your choice

  5. Lol. The car will be getting a remap with inter-cooler. It is used as a daily and will have some track use. By changing the flywheel to single make it useless for being a daily?

Single mass it is then :sunglasses:

The only thing i have found is that it is easier to stall as the smf is considerably lighter, but you get used to it, no other down sides, a few years ago there were no such things as duel mass flywheels, singles have been around for over 100 years now

  7. lol brilliant. What is the purpose of a dualmass flywheel then?

I think its to smooth out the pulses in the crankshaft due to the firing in the cylinders, was first used for diesels as far as i know, but there are lots on here and around that have single mass flywheels and not had any problems

  9. Ohhhh ok ok i see. most appropriated matey for the advised and information. Il wait till this flywheel packs in then il change it from there. What clutch would you recommend.

Again it will depend on what map you are going for, a remap without a hybrid then i think the standard clutch is okay, i am not rally that sure, yes i have a 250 engine but i am running a 225 gearbox and clutch, i have a R26r uprated clutch fitted, i think it will fit your but someone with a Mk3 will be more help i would say.

I was running a standard clutch and duel mass with 310+ bhp and 335lbft torque and tracking it

  11. have had a dual mass and original clutch for 11 years with 295lb/ft.
doesnt the smf throw up a light that needs to be mapped out?
