Clutch noise then disappears....

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by moono16v, Feb 20, 2018.

  1. any ideas I have just noticed today when my clutch is not pressed (is that disengaged?) and in neutral I can hear a strange slight knocking noise and then when I press it in (engaged?) it disappears??

    Any ideas?

Sounds likely to be the release bearing or dual mass (if you have one).

  3. I think I do? The cup has a dual one doesn’t it?

    Expensive job?

Yeah, they all have dual mass as a standard part.
May be worth just looking at changing the flywheel, clutch and slave if it turns out to be one of the two.

  5. That’s good be expensive ain’t it!

I might be wrong, but I think thats the usual cause. Definitely get it checked though mate.

  7. Not that I’m gonna leave it but what’s the risk I run it not getting it looked at ASAP?

To be honest you can probably (I say that loosely) drive 1000s of miles without it damaging anything else. I guess there is chance of it causing damage to gearbox and bottom end / mains. Neither would be worth the risk.
