Best value for money mods to do to a megane 225

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by andymegane225, Jan 9, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

Been doing a lot of reading on the old and new websites about performance enhancements for the 225 megane. Apart from the remap which from what I have read appears to be the best value for money modification available when you look at cost to BHP & lb/ft gains is there anything else which people would recommend to go along with it?? Budget for me is £1000.00 at the minute.

I was looking at a decat but am unsure on that one??

    Cooksport springs.

  3. Short shift mod, makes the gear change 10x more positive and is dirt cheap for what it does.

  4. Remap.

  5. Hi. I'm considering changing springs - what would you say is the benefit of Cooksports over OE? Are they firmer/softer?

  6. After a re-map a LSD will make the biggest difference as it will allow you to get all that extra power down. It will be a big help through the twisters too.

  7. Decent rubber on the corners.
And super unleaded in the tank.

  10. +1 on this

Get a really good set of tyres that are a good compromise with life span and grip. Then to work the tyres hard get some good pads, you'll need to look at what your needs are to decide which pads to go for. I only uprate the fronts though as the standard rears are good enough for all the work they do.

    Tyres - Yokohama AD08 get my vote (225/40/18) you'll get 4 for roughly £600
Pads will be no more than £200 for organ relocating braking

  11. Remap

  12. air box mod, its free

  13. Have to say my first mod on my new Mègane was the short shift mod By Andy and the boys in North Devon def Worth the two hour drive from Bath to have it fitted the difference is massive compared to the HGV like Gear changes of the std setup,
now it's nice crisp and precise

  14. Definitely SMF conversion + short shifter. Not to mention a proper calibration

  15. Hi guys. Anyone know where i can get the short shift mod done here in Northern Ireland? Really want to get this done!! Thanks

brakes, tyres, suspension refresh before ANYTHING

  17. Loads of Carbon bits. Nothing else, because looking like you're in F1 is important.

  18. I don't really think there is such a thing where I live the temps go to 50 degrees in summer so an intercooler was definitely the best mod for me.

With my driving style f I was living in the uk I'd definitely go tyres, coilovers and brakes.

For fun factor dump valve and downpipe, mid box delete with the rear seats down are definitely best mods, gives the car more character.

so I would say it really depends on the individual but you can't beat the combination of all together.

  19. Tyres - £500.
    Remap - £400.
    Shorthift - £100ish.
    =£1000.

  20. Three and half year old thread guys - don't think the OP needs the advice any longer, and the restart asked the short shift.

  21. yep..but still a interesting read for newbies to meganesport.

remap, shortshift, correct geometry, premium brakes and tyres..nothing more needed, for more than enough pace on the road.

  22. What is the correct geometry?

  23. i mean get it to a garage that has properly calibrated equipment,to make sure the standard settings are as they should be.
It will make a big difference to the handling if the settings are out.
