250 Help no clutch!

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by jimmy, Dec 25, 2017.

  1. Drove off my drive way this evening and the clutch pedal instantly dropped to the floor with no pressure at all!
Has anyone had similar happen on a mk3?

  2. Have you looked at the pedal to see if the springs snapped

  3. Definitely not the spring on the pedal. I thought maybe the slave cylinder but I still have all the fluid in the reservoir.

  4. Sounds like slave tbh, mine went more gradually but when it went it went.

  5. Mine did exactly the same last week haven't had time to see what it is yet but 90% sure it's the slave which ain't cheap to do! RS tuning was £1000 inc new clutch, diamond motors was £900 inc clutch. Funny thing was RS were adamant it needed fly wheel where diamond said it won't as they are very strong. Any way it needs to get sorted when I have the time lol.
There is a pipe which goes the the slave cylinder that can fail check that for any signs of leaks first.

  6. You don't need to do the flywheel unless it has excess play. Though you can't tell that till it's out.

They aren't cheap though, circa 300+ and that's on an exchange basis.

  7. my renault tech mate says he always does the flywheel on a clutch change.
He considers them to be a wear item..and we all know the dual mass has problems for many.

  8. You can buy the LUK full kit with flywheel,clutch/slave for sensible money.
even renault will sell you a luk clutch.
the guy in our renault main dealer parts dept said he can get them through renault.

  11. Just replaced the pipe as it was weeping but unfortunately when I bled the system the slave sh*t it’s self all over my drive way

  12. I don’t plan on replacing the DMF if I can help it. I managed to get Harrets Renault to match the best online price for the clutch and slave. £272 inc vat for both. Delivered Tuesday.

  13. ha ha..yep you got me there. Is the flywheel different on the 250?

  14. Had to replace my engine. When we took everything off the dmf was a mess with a huge amount of play in it. Engine had done 60k.

  15. My RS 250 cup has just lost the clutch, the pedal keeps going to the floor almost on its own.
It did this the other day so I pulled the pedal back to the top and was able to start the engine and drive.
This morning pedal just went to the floor.
Where is the clutch cylinder reservoir please?
    Any ideas?

Probably the slave cylinder has failed, Mine has done it 3 times now. Its in the box so box off im afraid.

Reservoir is shared with the brakes.

  17. Gear box off?
    That sounds expensive

Thanks for your reply, just as well it's happened now as I'm off to the ring soon.

  18. So it is a common fault then, mines on 44k miles?
Any idea of cost please ?

  19. Slave cylinder approx £100 from what I can remember. Box off so approx £300 labour, then you may as well replace the clutch and possibly and flywheel depending on condition, £180 and £450 respectively. It’s definitely not a cheap fix.
For reference mine was on 93k and hasn’t had an hard like, never seen a track.
There was no signs it was about to happen.

  20. New clutch, fly wheel, slave cylinder, total including parts and labour for me was £1200.

Someone in the know may disagree, but check the flywheel, they've been known to have a lot of play in them even at 20k miles. I took one off my new engine that had done 30k and it was toast.

  21. I would agree with this, for my R26 this was approx the cost and the flywheels dont seem to last very long

Nope slave had gone!was looking here and thinking £1000 plus without new DMF but found a local clutch centre that did the lot for £625 yes £625 all in!They even checked the DMF and said no play at all
They even used a genuine 3 piece renault kit i know this as i use renault warrington as they do and they confirmed it
Car now drives like new i even posted a review on google which i don`t normally do but was really impressed by them
