Hi all, new to the boards having just got myself a 2007 R26 for track use. Have brought a race wheel and boss kit from K-Tec racing and wondered if there was anyone here who had fitted one and could provide a few tips or a walkthrough....? Thanks!
Easy job. First thing is to rotate the wheel 180 degrees so it's upside down. This gives you access to the hole for removing the airbag. It can be done with the wheel in its normal position but you need to remove the column cowling which is a faff. Disconnect the battery. If you have the original stereo might be worth noting the stereo code. Give it about 20 mins, give the brake pedal a push or two to discharge the system fully. Don't want the bag going off in your face! There's a hole behind the wheel. Grab an Allen key 5 or 6 mm and you'll feel a spring clip when you push it in. Whilst pushing in you'll need to push the airbag upwards at the same time. It should pop out quite easily. Once the bags off you'll need a t50 torx bit for the bolt. Undo it a few turns and give the wheel a wiggle and pull towards you. Once it's loosened take the bolt out and disconnect all the wiring. That's it, wheels off. Fitting your boss kit is easy as it'll only go n one way. There's a larger spline indicating the top of the column. Obviously it'll be upside down while your fitting it. Once the boss is on you can sort your wiring and resistors for the airbag light. Once that's done fit the wheel. Connect up your battery and check it all works. The window regulators need a reset as the battery has been disconnected. I think you either pull the switch up for 15 seconds or down, can't remember which. Here's mine
Thanks James. How did you deal with the horn? I brought the whole kit from ktec, but omitted the horn push which I have now ordered. from the picture on the website, i could see no terminals etc on this, ( I notice you dont have central horn button either..I would ideally retain this rather than having to wire up other switches or buttons..)
The button in the centre is a Richbrook push button that I've wired in. I just extended the wires to give me enough to do the job. I didn't bother with an omp push horn as they wanted £20 for one, thought nah to that. Plus the spring clip on them can cause shorting as your supposed to remove the spring clip if you wire it in using the spade connectors.
I know this is an old thread but do you still have the car @Jamesycc I’m interested in how you wired the buttons on the wheel. Or if anyone else can help that would be appreciated
Hello mate. Yep still got the car. Tbh I've still not wired in the cc buttons as I never use it and I've been busy doing major house projects to even think about it. I don't have any info regarding the wiring of it to pass on and help you out I'm afraid. Cheers
Did you take out the clock spring wires when you did this given there's no longer cc etc, or just shove them inside the boss section?
Hi there I done the same thing a month ago I bought a boss kit from ktec racing just remove the 4 screws where the plastic cowling where the indicators go and then just push the air bag upwards and disconnect the horn and the cruise controls and then undew the nut in the middle and just pull the steering wheel of might need a bit of force and then put new boss on and extend the horn wiring loom with the kit you get with k tec and then attach new steering wheel to new boss need to get clip then to disconnect the horn light done
