squeal from steering

  1. I've noticed my steering squeals at low speeds, any ideas? i did have a similar noise when i was last at Anglesey, bit muted when wearing a helmet and flat out, is my power steering pump on its last legs?

Martin, it's electric and not hydraulic, the electrical motor is in the steering column behind the wheel, so might be worth trying it with the engine off but the ignition on and turning the wheel, you should hear it easier with the engine not running, or it might be something else :laughing::laughing:

  3. Cheers Ian, shows how much I know about cars! How’s your car/cars coming on, did you get to the bottom of the failure?

I think it was just bad luck on mine, going down the forge route now, new valves and springs, as it has been suggested the springs aren't really up to the job, apparently they float at high rpm's and touch the pistons.

Mine has a squeak now and again i just ignore it as i think its two plastic bits rubbing, that what it sounds like to me.
