  1. Yep, I can do that, gimme a few mins to dig out the info.

  2. Here's a quick guide mate - not as good as your roll cage one, but should give you a shopping list and some pointers!

  3. Got back from the Nurburgring on Wednesday evening, with the Megane on a trailer. On Monday it will be recovered from my brother's house to Rentech in Portsmouth, who'll be removing the gearbox and sending it off to Gear Link in Salisbury for a rebuild.

I did get in a full day 1 of my 2 day track day though. 8:33 was my best BTG time, was confident of going under 8:30 on day 2 but didn't get the opportunity - the gearbox lunched itself halfway round my first hot lap!

Here's a vid shot from my brother's Exige of a decent enough lap :

  6. Hah, unfortunately not! He can go sub 8 in that exige!

  7. I took an Exige to the ring in May 2011, I thought it was underpowered.
It was terrible when just a tiny few spots of rain fell.

  8. So, there's an update on the gearbox. 2nd, 4th, 5th gears and the input shaft are all buggered. Beyond economical repair, in fact they would be reluctant to attempt it due to the amount of damage!

Had to make a quick decision between a used box or a new box. I've gone for a new, warrantied box from Renault. Definitely an expense I wasn't wishing for, but hopefully that'll play nicely with the rebuilt engine, new flywheel and new clutch!

@eddie ninja - if you think yours is a money pit, let me assure you that I'm so deep into this pit I can no longer see the top!

how much was the gearbox from renault :coldsweat:

  10. Let's not go into that . Cheaper than an engine rebuild, more expensive than a gearbox rebuild!

  12. Today was the day I got the Megane back from Rentech - only did 50 miles getting her home but all feels good with the new gearbox so far. Fingers crossed it lasts as long as the first one (110k miles will do me!).

In terms of the failure I've got a video of it happening - really odd footage to be fair, looks like clutch rather than box, but it was definitely the box:

And here's some pics of some of the damage (the rest of the box got sent back to Renault as part of their sale\exchange policy):

@Daz - I did get the diff removed from the old box before it got sent off - I'll ping you some pics of it when I get a chance; looks in decent condition considering the box it came out of, but it's up to you if you want to risk it!
