CGR or Akrapovic?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Chris Llewellyn, Aug 31, 2017.

  1. Considering an exhaust system for my megane RS. Split between a custom made CGR system with decat down pipe with sports cat fitted in front section which would be interchangeable MOT time.
Or the slip on Akrapovic system which i think is cat back for around the same money. Already done the centre box chop mod but looking for a better sound and more bangs.

The CGR is more customisable and would be easier for them to build you a system where you can swap cats out etc.

CGR is a proper 3inxh system, built to your spec. Not to mention how much cheaper it is than the Akra.

  5. Thanks guys, think my mind is made up on the CGR system as it can be built to my spec. Top quality too.
My car already has a stage 1 map, question is with a decat/sports cat would the map need tweaking? Throw a engine management light etc.
Understand that to get the best from the set up a map tweak would be beneficial, problem is that the map was already on my car by previous owner and don't know who by so would probably have to be a full remap again.
Providing the car runs ok without any risks of boost spikes i would rather just keep the current map.

  6. CGR do mapping, kill two birds with one stone :tongueout:

  7. Would love to but a bit far for me to travel living in South Wales:smirk:. Would have it delivered.

  8. CGR is top quality! I have a turbo back system on my r26 and it's very well made! Only thing is that akrapovic may be worth more if you decide to sell it seperate from the car in the future...
But I would still chose CGR regardless.

  9. I have the akra and really like it but it still sounds quite muted and only pops when hot and pushing the car. It defo could be louder and more aggressive sounding.

But I'm loathed to swap. It was such a selling point for me for the car. But as everyone says the CGR system is supposedly epic!

    Tough choice.

The difference between our systems and the Akra systems/any other system or competitor on the market are quite big to be honest! Not just from a quality point of view but from an overall package and the engineering side of things.

Firstly our systems are a full 3" system, from the cat-flange right to the tailpipe (or from the turbo if you buy a downpipe too), unlike the Akra which is only 65mm and still retains the factory flexi which has an approx 50mm internal diameter.

Quality and finish wise we have the edge too, all our welds are back purged and welded by hand to the highest standards possible, it's a big claim but we can pip Akra (and any other company we're aware of) to the post when it comes to tolerances and weld quality.

Residual value wise we've seen our basic systems, which retail at £870, sell second hand from between £550-£600, and also seen second hand factory Akra's be put up for sale at around £1000 and not sell even though the RRP is approx £1800 from memory.

You also get a full mount kit with polybushes and everything is connected together with V-bands just to put the icing on the cake :sunglasses:

On the other hand, Akra have the branding and a name that people know, I guess it's whether that's worth the compromises or not

  11. My mind is made up, will be ordering a CGR system very soon. Can get turbo back system with sports cat cheaper than a cat back Akrapovic which will give hardly any gains IMO.
    Any discount for members:wink:?

We don't have room in our exhaust systems for any further discounts I'm afraid :worried: we make hardly anything on the Megane systems in the first place as they take so long to build!

Let us know once you want to leave us a deposit and we'll stick your system on the build list

  13. My car is already mapped, would a sports cat throw a engine management light on a mapped RS265?

  14. It might or not. Depends really, but you wont get the full benefit of the exhaust without a tweak of the map.

It depends if the current map has had the light switched off as a precautionary measure or not, shouldn't be too difficult to get it switched off though

  16. Is the akrapovic fully titanium. I know cgr quoted me £1800 for a titanium system. I don't know if it's over kill. While you'll be losing 50% weight, 14kg oem to 7kg cgr. I think at that sort of money the car would benefit else where first.

But the cgr exhaust looks second to none, maybe they could do us some discount/ group buy.

  17. I'm guessing it shouldn't cause any running issues until the map is tweaked?

The Titanium systems with one box were that much, we've since worked out we can't do them that cheap any more unfortunately :worried: we do still do stainless systems starting from £870 though that can be specced up how you like

It shouldn't do no, unless the car goes into limp mode but generally speaking they won't do
