250 Need new Clutch/ LW Flywheel

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by RingRocket, Aug 17, 2017.

  1. Hello everyone

Recently I ordered a new Gearbox and instead of the normal LSD I will be installing a Drexler diff. As the clutch/flywheel that I have now are getting quite old (133K kilometers) and I won't be opening my clutch everyday, I want to install a new clutch and a lightweight flywheel.

What package would you guys advise me? I've been looking at K-tec but maybe there are better deals out there?

  2. Personally, I would speak to RSTuning,i have know him to repair, and replace other peoples work.

Helix or TTV do kits to suit or Xtreme but they are on the pricey side.

I run a TTV SMF with stock clutch and it appears to be holding up ok, 4 years now and the last 18 months with hybrid power and torque.

  4. Sent them an email, thanks for the advice

Currently the car is a stage 2, IC/Exhaust/Filter/Tune). What would the cost be of a TTV SMF with a new clutch?

We are the exclusive distributor of the TTV Clutch and flywheel packages for the Mk3's as we helped develop them.

They are a twin plate design, and with the organic plates are rated to 550ft/lbs, the pedal is as light as factory and engagement is great for daily driving.

We normally sell them with a bite point adjuster, which includes a new hydraulic line from the bulkhead to the slave cylinder.

    The total cost for the package which includes;
    Single Mass Flywheel,
    Twin Plate Clutch Pack,
    Bite Point Adjuster,
Replacement Hydraulic line for fitting Bite Point Adjuster,

    £1572.56

The price without the adjuster kit is £1325.31 however we strongly recommend the adjuster kit as it makes like a lot easier, it can always be retrofitted if needs be though

  7. Does this include fitting?

It does not, however Mark Black at Midlands Renault Specialist offers fitting for approx £300 on a Mk3 Megane

  9. Ouch, that's a hard pill to swallow. :dizzy: Could you tell me what's the advantage of your package compaired to the 670 Pound K-tec Clutch? Their Clutch consists out of a lightweight Flywheel, Bolts, and a Genuine (OEM?) Renault clutch kit.

Not to bash or anything, just curious. :grinning:

So the main advantages are a higher torque loading, or at lower torque loading a longer lasting clutch as it's being used no where near it's designed limit.

It's also a twin-plate design which makes the clutch plates slightly smaller in diameter to reduce inertia, the pedal is just as light and smooth as a factory clutch and the engagement is a touch shorter so you can shift faster and smoother.

if you want something that's fit and forget no matter what you do to the car, which doesn't compromise ride quality or comfort, there's not really any other option which will tick every box (minus the bank account box!).

The quality of workmanship is phenomenal too, I'll attach some piccies of the kit  (the side on picture does have paddle clutch plates rather than the organic ones, these are capable of over 700ft/lbs should you ever wish to go that far)

    Cheers

  11. Thanks for the explanation!

Your clutch kit does indeed look phenomenal and -like you said- ticks every box one may need.
However, the bank account box is quite important to me as well. I don't see myself driving for more than 50K kilometers before I sell the car and I would be selling the car with the original gearbox with the current working clutch/flywheel. I would sell my new gearbox and Drexler diff seperately. So the new clutch/flywheel only needs to 'last' atleast 50K km (30K miles).

Another point is that my car is running 460NM ( 340 ft/lbs max). That is 60% of the capacity of your package. I feel that for my application your package is a little overkill.

So in short, while your flywheel/clutch combo is pretty much perfect, it's too good (really ..) for my application. It's also out of my budget and/or willingness to spend. If I had a hybrid turbo (or better), then your package would be an ideal solution (and I don't see myself have this in the near future).

    Thanks for offering though
