R26 Cx to 275 cup/trophy

Discussion in 'Megane Discussion' started by Cazper, Aug 15, 2017.

  1. I am really pleased with the meg R26 and the 250/265/275 are starting to look more interesting...the style is growing on me.i use the car mainly as a track car.
What benefits would I get if any going to a 275? Mine is reasonably sorted and if I got a 275 it would need to be sorted as well.
    Mine is as follows
    2007 R26
    Mapped to 275
    Larger intercooler
    Bucket seats and harnesses
    Bc coilovers poss 89
    Short shift
    Induction kit
    Milltec
    Decat
    Semi slicks
seats and rear belts fogs rear washer etc etc removed
    R26r lights and decals
    Swmotorsport cage hopefully
    Small racing steering wheel soon
    3 x sets of wheels
    New clutch and end
    1.11 brakes
    New brembo calipers all round
    Huge receipts history

What jobs can I do to mine to get more fun out of it or what's the view of this vs a 275

    Any feedback welcome

  2. Right. The first thing you will notice is the size of the car from behind the wheel. Feels a bigger and less "placeable" car.

Parts are much harder to come by and a lot of stuff like driveshafts etc. Are dealer only.

The car is much more stable out of the box particularly in long higher speed corners, with a better diff giving improved slow corner exit traction.

The engine is obviously a fair bit stronger and better refined than the version in the r26. Well specced r26 rivalling power is a simple remap away.

The bigger brakes are less prone to fade from my experience, but give less initial bite. Feels a heavier car particularly in this area.

I personally wouldn't go from a meg2 to a meg3 as a track car. I use a meg3 as a track car and have a friend with an r26 who I regularly go to track days with.... The meg3 is just a collection of small improvements over a meg2... Together they make a great car in singularity, but when compared to its predecessor it is just natural progression. Not something to spend £15k about.

My next step after a Megane would be the cliche m3... You are going to get more from that than you will a meg3 in terms of involvement and enjoyment. It also won't lose any money.

  3. Dale, many thanks for taking the time to reply. I was interested in your views. I doubt I will go to an m3 as a track car as I dismissed that when I initially looked at trackcar options as I have bmws as my daily drivers. My next change away from RS will be to caterham but trying to hold off that at the moment. The clios have a huge amount of aftermarket kit and the megs have less but still decent. And half reasonably priced.
What you say makes a lot of sense and gives me food for thought.
    Thanks

  4. Makes sense, I like the idea of a "7" style kit car. But it's rare you encounter one on track with actual genuine pace..... A S1 Elise is another car of that kind, although apparently notoriously twitchy.

I've thought about downsizing to a Clio 200 a few times if I'm honest. Theyre as capable as a front driver needs to be in my opinion.

If you have a daily and it's a track/weekend only toy then a Caterham or similar is the only way to go imo

  6. Trouble is when it rains you get wet....is the only thing putting me off. Mrs says just get one. I will get some more use out of the meg first and revisit next year.

  7. I shared use of a friend's Elise 111s or r.....both he and I preferred the 172

  8. There were a few Elise's and an exige at Anglesey on Friday. They just don't seem to have any real world pace on circuit. There were various clios from 172 through to 200s keeping them honest all day.
