  2. There is some utter bollox chatted on here. So these Clio Williams selling for £15k and clio trophys at similar money? Yes of course cars lose money they all do, however there are still some models amongst the range that are now starting to creep up due to their heritage and the fact they are just darn great cars!

I think the new RS looks tidy. Wait until you see it and read the reviews before spouting constant conjecture which could be completely inaccurate. With a bit of luck it will be a good car. Let's wait and see!

  3. then why did they dump the f4rt engine if it meets currant emission laws?
its been in production for 30 years in some form..why change now,if they didnt have to?

  4. I think those cars are fetching more than they cost new arnt they?

  5. Perhaps its called "progress"
If the new lump has more power torque and is stronger and more mpg etc then fine by me. Either way I am not in the market for a 2017/2018 renault, I have my heart set on something else.

Because the F4RT is an ancient lump that uses am archaic turbo. Shame they didn't bin it for the Mk3 [emoji23]

  7. Regarding your point about the NA Clio and how Renault were masters of the fun and small 2 Litre hatchback was spot on. Emissions and efficiency eventually killed it. It wasn't just about power as the Forced Induction Clio 200T knocked out a similar output.

Renault shifted it's approach with the Auto FI Clio and blew it. For example, Ford and Peugeot kept the price, fun and simple concept with the Fiesta ST and PS 208 GTI and took over Renaults territory. Their success is nothing to do with power outputs. I've a feeling the same is going to happen with the Megane, but we will see.

exactly..another example of renault making old tech work as long as they could get away with.

  9. Focusing r & d on pipe and slippers brigade

  10. Renault at least made it much more durable and bit more efficient for the MK3. Plus you can safely boost it up from stock.

All this 'progress' chat is often an just an easy roll over and accept all the legislation a load of faceless jobsworth bureaucrats like to pump out.

Not heard of anyone say the new 4 pot turbo Porsche Caymen/Boxster engine is a step up and improvement from the old 6 cylinder. Lost its soul.

  11. You can boost them all

    Partly true

I have read that too....i have had the 3.4s and 3.8 s post bore score. Great noise if you have sport switchable exhausts. Never driven the 4pot turbo so can't comment. Not really keen on 4pots anyway.

  12. Less headroom for boost on a smaller capacity engine plus you can crack roughly 350 bhp on stock internals with the Mk3 Megane. Not possible on the 225/230. Renault have done some decent tweaking for the Mk3 lump.

On topic, if the Mk4 Megane is a 1.8 engine, the scope to squeeze more out of it from standard may be limited.

  13. Not a fan of the wheels on that red one (if that even is the chosen wheels)

Most modern cars these days have the most awful wheel choices! All black with polished faces, and in my opinion they're hideous!

  14. So come on Aerofoil, what car do you currently own?

  15. HYUNDAI PONY?

  16. I fancy of the 996 or 997 porkers next but these engine issues do worry me somewhat.

  17. If u get one put 12k aside unless hartech have already sorted it and under warranty. 3.4 less prone and the problem mostly went away with gen 2 engines. Repairs might make your eyes water. I won't buy a Porsche unless under Porsche approved warranty. And come renewal is far cheaper than warranty direct and all those guys....mine was 1300 for 2 years extension cover.but needs to be under 10 yrs old. Get a 6yr old one and you can get 4 years of Porsche warranty and peace of mind.
All well documented as you know.

  18. Out of interest, how would you suggest we stop "rolling over" and stop the legislation that causes these changes? We might not like it, but it's happening because the environmentalist brigade want it, because governments are all too happy to oblige and because 99% of car buyers don't give a damn what kind of engine their car has. Most of the younger petrolheads I know love modern turbocharged cars because they are extremely capable out of the box and a few hundred quid will get you a decent jump in power output. They aren't bothered about Lotus-style dynamics because most of them have never even experienced them anyway. A lot of them are quite happy to have flappy paddle boxes. In fact, go to somewhere like the 'ring and vast numbers of our European friends are actively choosing the automatic option instead of the manual one. We are a dying breed and make up a tiny percentage of the car buying population. No one cares what we think anymore. The market has changed.

Anyway, regardless, we can't really comment on anything other than the looks. The Megane might yet be brilliant, so let's wait and see before we shoot it down.

  19. Depends if you just want to accept everything you are given without comment. That's just an observational and accept it standpoint. Lotus? Doing very well now under new management with its new lightweight and minimalistic engineering approach. Environmentalists? Best just give them what's on their agenda then. No one seems to mention the huge extra CO2 used to make an electric or hybrid car or battery disposal issues. Emissions free? Reality check required. Do we really need some grey suit to tell us we all must have tyre pressure sensors in cars? Some elements are progress but so much is people messing about with stuff because they are rammed in bearacratic offices feeling they have an important job to do and have to justify a salary.

The Mk4 Megane? Getting a manual gearbox due to demand. Interesting.....

  20. I would say it is huge progress to have tyre pressure sensors in our wheels. I believe it is a huge safety factor. I have them on most of my cars and the bike too and I really like it. I am guessing your car doesn't have it. Mine also shows the temp of each tyre

  21. So, apart from a load of words, what do you suggest?

  22. Aerofoil, what car do you own?

  23. I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to ask that anymore mate, make your own mind up about it, I have.....lol

  24. There was a person on another forum who was the forum "expert" who knew everything. He would not share what boat he had and was always very elusive to certain questions. The profile and approach is very similar to someone on here. Strangely he left that site in early 2013. I think his name was Richard Cranium.

  26. Is it compulsory now to talk about what damn car Aerofoil drives after he posts.
i understand he rubs some of you up the wrong way..but thats car forums for you.

Each one of the main contributors to this thread, all have very valid, interesting points.
Dont see why we have to keep coming back to one irrelevant issue.

  28. Apologies if i have "spoilered " your day mr Areofoil

  29. You start a thread in the general discussion area, be proactive not reactive. This thread is drifting and will just be edited by the Admin.

  30. I give up. Another post with potential for interesting discussion where you dodge the question. If you don't have a sensible answer to contribute, perhaps you shouldn't accuse others of similar. As I've said before, you might not get so much flack if you actually offered a bit of credibility instead of just telling people they are wrong all the time. A couple of answers to simple questions and things may be very different.

Admin are very welcome to delete/edit any of my posts where they feel they are inappropriate anyway. I don't want the forum clogged up with nonsense anymore than anyone else and it seems that any attempt to engage with you leads to nonsense. I shall say no more.

Back on topic, I like the vents in the front wings. It's a shame they don't appear to have adopted the more shapely exhaust trim that the MK3 used. The one in the images looks a bit "square". A bit of technical information is what we need now anyway.

  32. Makes me laugh, it's fine for him to'rub people up the wrong way' as you put it, but not allowed to have a bit of banter back if you can't take it don't dish it, delete what you want chaps.
I'll still hang on until I've seen one in the flesh and had a drive in one, can't see it being anything other than brilliant, same as all the other Renaultsports.

  34. I think you're right. I suspect it will be there or there abouts in terms of performance. The Clio is apparently very capable, but attracts negative press because of the gearbox. With a manual option in the Megane, it could be very good. It won't be engaging in the same way as a Clio 172, but nothing is anymore, that's how it is. I await more info with interest.

Back on point....what a lovely colour

  36. Perhaps they could squeeze this under the hood....would certainly give it a bit more va va voom. ..and no need to map it afterwards 20161113_154823.jpg

  37. Now putting that under the bonnet would certainly change the cars appeal to me

  38. Aerofoils car choice is more secretive than posh spices waist size!

To be fair I'm all for cleaning up engines. I don't want the environment to be completely fucked for future generations so I think we owe it to Humanity to use technology to create cleaner cars. Should ban fucking diesels I fucking detest them. They stink and even the noise of their shitty loud engines irritate me. Especially when I'm out cycling and one is behind me revving the tits out of it to overtake me.

Drive a tesla and then tell me it's not fast and capable. [emoji848]

  39. We have no alternative to replace the millions of liters of diesel used everyday.

If we tried to move over to bio fuel, you would need to employ the majority of the worlds agriculture, to keep up with demand.

Electric is fine..but the power stations generating the energy still pollute massively..and try and get the likes of china and usa to cut emissions.

We would also run into supply issues from the power grid,if huge amounts of electric vehicles came into production.
Remember the awful deal we got from the chinese to build Hinkley C?...its already pushed hard to meet demand.

In the next 50 years we still need a energy revolution..Otherwise i can see countrys with fuel reserves stopping exports to meet there own demands...and wars starting to fight over whats left..
