R26 Forged pistons, new turbo

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Leer26, Mar 15, 2017.

  1. I'm contemplating forging the R26, currently running stage 2 295/320, I'd probably upgrade the turbo also, either a 250 or hybrid, cambelt would also be done. Power wise I'd like to keep it about 320-330bhp. Many forged Megane's on here? Also where would you recommend to carry out the work? Thanks

I've got a forged engine built by RS Tuning and would recommend them. You'll need a hybrid turbo, forged pistons and rods to get 330bhp. I have also got Supertech valves, Supertech double spring kit, and Catcams. It's running 330bhp at the moment but my spec is good for 360/370 odd if I upgrade the fuel system.

  3. Thanks Tim, I spoke with Paul at RS tuning yesterday and he gave me a price. How does it cope with the power? I won't be using it in the wet just the dry, I'm sceptical about the torque it's running on standard rods, it's due belts soon so thought I'd go all in and do pistons, rods and turbo when I'm at it

I use it daily in all conditions and it puts power down no problem. I've had some gearbox problems but I think that's more bad luck stemming from a poor rebuild before the engine was built.

  5. Was about to say - engine dynamics do a package, a lot of discussion on the FB groups about this and RST were more expensive for same parts, although they might've price matched now

How are you liking that silver one?

  6. Loving it mate, I might speak with engine dynamics and see what they can do

  7. I have a forged engine in my race car and a 250 turbo. Awesome set up really useable and just about usable on track without being too much. RS Tuning built it and just had Engine Dynamics map it. Running 300bhp and 240 lbs/ft though this is low due to running a 38mm restrictor. Some would say you could just buy a 250 lump but for me racing I need an over engineered engine and I believe there are engine the same spec as my one running 500bhp plus.

  10. how did you find them mate? i've had a quote from them, £2500 for pistons, rods, cambelt etc then an extra £800 for supply and fit of the hybrid turbo. i'm waiting on a price from rstuning

is that for them to fit the pistons and rods ?

  12. yes supply and fit, would be leaving the car there

i went for there level 2 package and rebore to 83mm due to cylinder damage

  14. sounds good, did you have it mapped there also?

    yeah they done everything

  16. I would not think twice about using Engine Dynamics. Really good and Andy will answer any questions you have!

  17. I am just about to get a stage 1 rebuild at ED for my r26 as also had piston blow needs rebore.
Does the rebuild in and of itself give more power?
    Cheers
    Eddie

  18. Level 1 rebuild? Nope.

  19. Go for stage 2 @eddie ninja . In my opinion it is a false economy to no get it fully forged( with forged rods ) when u do a rebuild.

I'm pissed at having to pay for any rebuild let alone stage 1. Getting forged pistons and r26r clutch. Speaking with Andy at ED and he did suggest forged rods but that's if i want more than 300bhp. I don't.
