hi. I will be booking the car in to have it looked at but wondered if this has been seen by anyone before..? There's no pattern to when it happens. It did it several times a lap on track. But also a few times on road. Probably happens every 4-5 days on the road. No issues with how the car drives etc. The STOP red light comes on the dash together with a red battery symbol. It all stays on for a few seconds then disappears. When it's gone the screens states 'Start-Stop Activated' even in sport mode...? Anyone any ideas?? And which is the best dealer to go to in the north west for warranty work? Thanks
Thanks. Battery connections are good. Please point me towards the earth strap. Pic if possible. I'm not the most mechanically minded of people.
It could be brake fluid needs a top up, mine was between min and max (closer to the min) but used get the warning an odd time but in similar scenario e.g. down steep hill with left hand bend if I braked at certain points. Brake fluid change, closer to the max mark and never happens since. I've not stop start mind you so didn't get that bit of the warning.
That's an interesting reply thanks for that. I had the brake fluid changed for the last track day and this began at that trackday so this does add up. I'll check with the place that did the brake fluid change and see if they will just top it up. They are only round the corner. Thanks.
So. This just kept on happening. So the car went into the dealership today. There answer is a faulty Ecu ? Couldn't talk to the tech to get more details but they want the car back in a few days to swap the ecu. Am I confident this will fix it? Not really. But I hope they know what they're doing......
So the car goes in on Monday. It's been worrying me that they said it's the ECU. I'm no tech but that sounded odd to me. So I went in today to ask. And the mechanic said it's not the ecu they are changing next week. It's the UPC. Is this the fuse box unit?
Just in case anyone else has this problem. The master tech at Renault London west has said the fault that is coming up is from the UPC but he isn't sure that it's that. He's going to order a new UPC and alternator just in case the UPC doesn't cure it.
Went through this exact thing with my wife’s Megane. 1st alternator replaced under 3 year warranty. 2nd alternator “failed” less than 6 months later and 2 months outside of the car’s warranty period so apparently wasn’t covered by a warranty. After a major row with the local Renault dealership, which ended with one of their employees being fired and Renault UK stepping in, the alternator was replaced with a 95% contribution from Renault and then a few months later the same warning on the dash. After being told the alternator needed replacing again, I suggested they diagnose the actual fault and that I wouldn’t accept the vehicle back until they did, over a week later they found a dodgy earth strap. That was replaced and problem went away forever. I am absolutely sure that was the problem from the start, so recommend you get the dealer to check this out before replacing anything else. Will have a look through paperwork to see if I can find the part number of what was replaced.
This is a massive help. Thanks for that. I will leave it with them till they sort it. I only have a few weeks of warranty left and don't fancy the arguments. The list of possibilities are : Battery connections (look fine to me) Alternator Earth strap Brake fluid (looks ok to me) UPC (been changed already) I will make sure all of these are checked on the next visit to the dealers.
