225 Trophy Piston Failure (Causes)?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Trophyboy, Jul 17, 2017.

  1. Hi all

Just wondering if someone could tell the causes for pistons to fail like this as i really dont want it happening again once ive had it rebuilt.

Stripping the engine down i couldnt see anything out the ordinary. Water pump was free, oil pump was ok & clean (Chain was loose though) headgasket was fine, oil pick ùp was clear, no debris in sump and oil pretty clean.
Could it be air or fuel related?

Please see pics below of said piston (Cylinder 2) and scorched bore (All on inlet side)
Plus pics of head valves etc from 1 to 4

I also found a deep score mark on one og the cam seats? Cam journal is fine though, just the seat. Could i get away with this or is the head scrap?

Any info would be great as i really dont fancy doing this all over again haha

    Cheers[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
