PlastiDip anyone?

  1. I must have just watched an hour of these videos and I'm completely fascinated by this... It's some kind of plastic coating you can apply your car - or just part of it (wheels for example). You can use it to change the colour of the car, just protect the paint but the best things is - it's completely removable! Typically it seems to have matte finish, but it can be glossified.

I'm just curious if anyone has tried this already? Maybe has some pictures to show?

  2. I've got a tin, did my old badges and other bits and bobs on my old R26, good stuff mate it was on for a good year and never came off

  3. Yeah. Painted my rear view black. Looks much cleaner than the horrid creamy Colour.

  4. Funny you should say that I've been watching them too for the last hour ;an American guy from dyc

thinking about doing my meg 250 oyster grey wheels red.

have a look at water transfer on alloys its crazy

  5. Its great stuff, Ive done a few cars now. Its easy to use as long as you get the right kit. If your gonna do the full car make sure you buy the Earlax hv3500. Best sprayer we get in the UK. Can get it at Argos for about £80.

Oh and if you wanna buy pre-mixed genuine plasti dip in the UK check out matt-pack.co.uk. Used them a few times, top quality!

  6. Is it as easy as it looks,i mean could you just use the spray cans for alloys and do you need to use a lacquer after

  7. For wheels the cans are alot easier. But if your doing the whole car you will need the gun. No you dont use lacquer on top of the dip. Make sure you put down about 7/8 coats and that will protect it. If you want to look shiny you can use glossifier. You can get clear coats to put over the top of the coloured coats if you want, but its durable stuff!

  8. Thanks mate just looked on matt-pack
£51 for 18" alloys 5 cans ;cheap as chips really as powder coating costs £200+ round here.

is it easy to take off if i dont like it going for red alloys on my og

  9. Yeah its cheap stuff, plus if you ever want to freshen it up, just put another coat on

Yeah its easy enough to get off. I find the best way to get it off wheels is to put on a pair of latex gloves and dip your finger in a bit of white spirits then just rub it on the dip and it will start to peel, then it should be able to peel off in 1 big bit

  10. Thanks mate going to be different and order red not seen a 250 with red wheels

Any pics mate sounds a good idea, interior plastics are a horrid colour.

  12. I sprayed all my engine bay bits black, took that nasty dirty yellow away

  13. Thanks for the advice! Would love to see some pictures of the cars you've done, if it's handy

I'm thinking of first doing some clear coat protection for the winter - wheels and possibly front end. Just to see how this stuff works. However, I have R26 F1 decals on the front bumper. Do you think PlastiDip will affect the decals, IOW will the decals be preserved once I decide to remove the dip?

  14. Nice!

  15. Hey mate, I will try dig some of the photos out now. On my laptop somewhere.

Im not 100% sure about the decals. I would imagine the would remain intact as its really just a layer of rubber thats over the top of your original paint. I would recommend asking Alan at matt-pack, he would be able to give you a definitive answer

  16. I done my diamonds and the RS in my badge a couple of years ago with it, its good stuff.
