Mid box chop

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Jambo87, Jul 5, 2017.

  1. Hi everyone. After a mid box chop. Anyone recommend where i can get it done in north east. Cheers jambo

  2. I did it at my local garage, then inspected it a couple of weeks later and it was an acceptable job. Now the car sounds characterful :grinning:

  3. Quite a few people will do it, cost me only £50 and pops nicely in sport

  4. Are you in NE mate

  5. Ah no sorry, just saying that many garages will do it (i'm SW!)

  6. Exhaust a fix
    Darlington

  7. Cracking mod and pops and bangs a lot in sport mode when hot

  8. I think the most accurate description someone gave me was that on idle it sounds like a lumpy cam'd XR3i and that one of the pops sound like kids stamping on juice cartons played through a megaphone

  9. I've got the Akrapovic exhaust and I'd want to be able to return it to standard. Is that possible?

  10. Should be if you ask them to use clamps instead of welding it in.

I thought the Akra didn't have a mid silencer?

  11. I have no idea haha. Just wondering how to make it a bit louder.

  12. Probably a decat/sports cat or backbox chop maybe

  13. Dont butcher your Akra, sell it and buy a CGR system

  14. Definitely wouldn't go butchering the Akrapovic :flushed:. Thought they were pretty loud anyway. But like what's been said, decat or a CGR system they can tailor the sound just like you want it and very high quality.

  15. Factory fit Akra does (albeit a small one) , aftermarket doesn't.

  16. Not wanting to hijack the thread but how would you increase the sound and pops/bangs, whilst keeping the akra (which I like), but making sure it will still pass the track noise tests??

    Decat?

You'll have no issues with noise limits, even with a straight system they still ain't that loud.
