Now I know some of you will say "why bother?" but the interior and gadgets were 2 of the things which I most struggled with when choosing my car (over the M135i and the other usual candidates). The new RB8 version has the same screen/satnav as the Clio 200T, the main advantage being it allows you to have RS Monitor AND Satnav functionality. I chose the TomTom satnav option in my 265, and in fairness it works well and I definitely use it more than I would the RS Monitor bits. HOWEVER, now that there's a known system which will plug into the 265 dash...I'd really like to look at the possibility of retro-fitting one. My understanding from googleing various things is that the 265s with Satnav still have the necessary sensors and the like for the RS Monitor. How can I go about comparing differences in part numbers between by 265 and the RB8 and eventually getting to a list of the parts I'd need to make a conversion?
Have you managed to progress with your findings Ben? I'm really interested in this idea too. Anyone else got any useful information to set us on our way?
Found this on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsxnxEgJ_wg While it shows the older systems, it proves you can do both on a Megane. Also a Twingo forum have managed to sort it too. Thread here: http://www.twingo133.net/general-twingo-renaultsport/monitor-subsequently-installed-t5055-200.html
Hi mate. No made no progress. Seems there's very little info out there. Needs someone brave to buy the r-link system and then figure out the wiring.
I'm interested in this, I have the TomTom nav and mistakingly thought it had RSmonitor too. I'd love to get both working, especially considering I hardly use the nav
I should add, I would need to something good like the video above as I have a 250. (not sure if 265 is different) can anyone translate that video?
You can't retrofit the V2 RS Monitor, It just doesn't work. You can however retrofit the V1 RS monitor but it requires some programming, Theres a thread on the French RS forum but unfortunately the guy that was doing has stopped now and won't/hasnt said what actually needs programmed as he was offering it as a service.
That's a bugger. Would like the best of both worlds. Lol Ps, you missed you some action packed racing last night on the DW Forza Btcc.
You should be able to fit the V1 RS monitor as yours is the first gen Nav but its just finding what actually needs programmed is the tough part. I may still stick the RS monitor in mine if i can find one cheap but doubt it. Haha random, I didn't even know that you were in on it as well, Whats your tag?
Yes, As i said there is a thread on the French RS Forum. V2 will not work as a retrofit. Well it probably would if you throw money at it eventually but IMO it really isn't worth the time/hassle or effort.
Does this retrofit maintain the satnav? I guess it does as it would have to use the existing rs monitor v1 wide lcd display and you would have two displays in the car..
thought so.. that's why I think it's strange that they can't co-exist (bar the shared physical location, of course) without 'programming'.. I would think that rs monitor is just another device you hook up to the can bus and you're done (plus maybe telling the car that the monitor is there)..
You can have the V1 RS Monitor and Satnav, Looks a bit pants though as there isn't really anywhere that suits the monitor placement other than the OEM space, Which is taken by the nav
thanks, Jamie.. I take it that the 'programming' you mentioned earlier is supposed to add rs monitor to the satnav system then?
I honestly couldn't tell you as my French isn't the best and the guy that was doing it wouldn't actually say what needed done exactly. Im always looking for a V1 Monitor to come up for sale to try and see whats needed, It may just be a simple enable in Clip but i have my doubts on it being that easy
The guys that did the twingo (see previous page link) said it was a very simple Clip update after they got hold of the monitor. They even posted the instructions too.
I know all about the Twingo retrofit as thats what got me thinking but the more i actually read up and researched about doing so it turns out it isn't just plug and play and enabled in clip. unfortunately.
Thanks Jamie. This is Renault Connected Services' official response to retro fitting the R-link : "Unfortunately it is not possible to make the equipment swap you would like - the systems are very different from one another and to install the R-Link on a vehicle it would have to be extensively worked upon, making the costs of this procedure rival that of purchasing a new car altogether."
Your not missing much anyway, The V2 R-Link os by all accounts. Horrible. So many glitches and issues with them
I'm not denying this may be true, but just for balance, mine has been absolutely fine so far. I read about the many problems people had updating the software and the maps, but this went without a hitch. New apps have been installed and work well, again without problem. V2 RS Monitor is a blast - can't wait for better weather to push the figures a little more. The online services even work - great fun sending tweets from your car (I know it's quicker on my phone but still..) As I told the saleman, the small screen in the early Mk3 cars was a major reason I didn't want one coupled with the later fact you couldn't get monitoring and sat-nav together. When I realised this was no longer the case, my interest was piqued enough to make enquiries. To some the screen/nav/monitor may be immaterial but to me it's a big reason why I bought the Trophy so I can understand why somebody would want to try upgrading if possible.
I'll admit i have only seen bad stuff about it but then that always seems to be the case, Nice to hear someone that has had no issues with it. It does look a lot better than the V1
