Thank you. Hopefully this is the cause of the knocking I've been hearing. The rubber is absolutely ruined and Water is coming out of it when I squeeze it. Guessing it should be pretty firm?
These do indeed make knocking sound when worn as do the drop links which look identical and connect to anti roll bar
Well fingers crossed this will sort it. Will be pretty pleased if so cos I was determined not to pay for a garage to fix it!
Replaced loads of these on other cars and assuming these will be the same you may find it easier to jack up the steering knuckle a bit before you try and undo them which will "lock" the joint as the chances are the whole joint will just spin otherwise when you turn the nut. Failing that pull all the rubber off and stick a good set of grips around the joint itself then undo the nut. There is probably a hex fit on the threaded part that you're supposed to use to stop it turning when you spanner the nut but they usually just round off if they're a bit rusty. I usually get the nut undone just enough that I can just chop them off with a hacksaw to be honest. Takes about 20 seconds with a good saw.
No mate one. They're up to 50 quid each on some websites. Cheapest I saw was engine dynamics at 20 something.
Thanks for the advice. Always handy when working on parts that probably haven't been touched for 11 years!
Absolutely spot on with your advice. The nut and thread are spinning. I only have one jack but work have a few so will do it during my break tonight. I just jack up under where the nut is?
my mate said his saw the fucker off. Not that I'm gonna be keeping it, is it? I'll see what tools work have.
Cut down the thread/bolt through the nut, takes all the stiffness out, can almost wind the nut off by hand then.
Absolute nightmare that was! Done now though and what a difference! Thanks for the tips and everyone else who's given advice on here. Really appreciate it.
