Harness to standard Recaro seats

  1. Hi all, has anyone fitted harness to the standard Recaro bucket seats? If so where have you mounted them to the seat and to the rear?

    Many thanks

  2. You can, most will tell you not to and even if you mount them at the right angle you're not supposed to. You need to mount the rear straps much higher than the rear seats.

I'd say look at a 275r but they seem to mount them too low too....

  3. In the clio world bolting harnesses to the floor is dangerous.

With the meganes as they're a longer car the angle of the harnesses is not as short, you can get away with it from a safety perspective, just.

  4. I had harness in my old clio as it was a fully strip track car. I don't want to turn the megane into one haha so would like to keep the rear seats in. Just wonder where people bolt the harness eyelets to e.g front seat or through the floor and where do people put the rears to?

  5. Interesting, they still looked a bit shallow to me but the pics weren't great I found. Not sure why the 275r don't mount them to the bar that mounts into the seat clips in the rear. Would think that should be both strong enough and chassis mounted itself.

Still the folding nature of the Recaros mean you shouldn't, I did in the Clio for a while but I never crashed so....

  6. In the 275-r the harnesses are bolted to the rated fixings that are under the rear seats (in a std 275). They also have a different style of seat, as I believe the recaro CS seats are not rated for harnesses at that angle and the potential load that would be realised with the angle of the harness on an impact. I may be talking nonsense, but that's just info I have gleaned whilst looking at doing something similar in mine.

  7. Recaro have always stated that CS are compatible with harnesses.

  8. I'd always be very dubious about using harnesses with a reclining seat, but I don't know if the CS is suitable.

  9. Totally agree.
Should've said that I personally would never do it either (particularly with a harness angle on the high side), but Recaro have stated several times that the CS is good when used with harnesses.

  10. Correct. The 275R has a fixed back seat. Renault can accommodate a high shoulder strap approach angle with this seat and its worth remenbering FIA rules on harness angles for the shoulder straps on approved seats are only Recommended.

Some confusuion also in this thread with Mk2 and Mk3 Meganes. The OP has a Mk3 with Recaros (I believe), not an R26.

With the Mk3 reclining Recaro (not 275R), although Recaro may say the seat is suitable for harnesses there may be confusion over what they deem as a suitable shoulder harness approach angle.
