Hello, I have seen a few on ebay etc and keep getting pissed about so thought I would post here. I would prefer silver/white with a decent service history and not too fussed about mods but maintenance more important. Mileage wise upto 80k would be ideal as plan on keeping it for a while. 6k max budget. I'm based in Edinburgh but can travel for the right car. Cheers S
I was looking for around 4 months or so and just found the right one for me earlier this week. I'm really quite fussy, my budget was 5.5k and I've found what I think is a nice example so you should be fine if you take your time. This was the next one I was going to look at - https://www.gumtree.com/p/renault/stunning-renault-megane-sport-r26-low-miles-/1195288705 I was looking in as many places as possible - auto trader, pistonheads, eBay etc and believe it or not, nice ones seem to pop up on the likes of gumtree. I don't think it's a bad thing if it takes you a while to find one as you learn so much in the process. Good luck!
Cheers Leigh, yeah I message folk and get no answer then ads disappear lol! Just gonna start phoning as soon as I see the right one. There's no rush like you say wait on the right one.
Also, if you're thinking of keeping it for a good while, do yourself a favour and buy a standard one (if you can find one). Even if you modify it yourself, keep all the standard parts. So many people have modified them, the standard parts will be hard to find/very expensive before long.
Yeah that's the plans repalce worn with better and keep the original parts. I just sold my Clio 172 that was a hoot, so after something a bit more grown up. How ate you finding your early ownership with your new Megane?
Sounds like a good plan. I only fetched it on Tuesday and not got it on the road yet (ncb tied up on other car, stupid insurance companies and almost end of month for tax). Hoping to get in on the road next week. However, I already love it!! I cleaned it today and I'm just itching to take it out!
Tell me about it insured the clio for 48 hours and lost 50 odd quid! Brilliant and jealous haha, you got a build thread/pics? I've done my homework on them so trying to find a good a one as I can for my budget. There was a white one that had a recent clutch and was due to get swivel hub bearings done but the guy deleted his ad. So got to keep my eyes peeled!
New to this club, looking for an R26. https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?sh...club,-looking-for-an-R26..14283/&share_type=t
Cheers That was the day I got it and it was ditched, i've washed it today and love it. I've got myself a list of bits and bobs I'd like to sort when I get chance.
Good choice on silver Mine's not up for sale but everything has a price, could be tempted as I do want a DC5 at some stage soon. Silver 57 plate R26, 69k, think I've replaced everything on it (bar the engine and gearbox) since I bought it standard in Sept. Most of the car has had brand new replacement parts (except the exhaust and flywheel which had been on the previous car for about 500 miles) EFi mapped, brand new Team dynamics 1.3 wheels in correct centre bore and et (no spigots or spacers) with RS3 tyres, Ktec turbo back with sports cat, R26R clutch and TTV SMF, fully polybushed (purple incl ARBs), GPI cooler, Siemens 630cc injectors, ramair intake, H&R springs and new R26 shocks, new discs, PF Z rated pads, braided lines, Motul fluid, Pro perfekt recirc valve, etc etc and a load more stuff I've had done. 6k would be a little short though - 99% of them are cheaper, but as said I've totted up and spent £11k on it since buying it in Sept.
Nice cars guys(Danith seriously 11k!!) , yeah DC5 is on my shortlist too lol if was gonna spend more than 6k would be swaying towards the DC5's a bit more rare. I'd rather have a standard car too tbh. Just gonna keep adding to the car kitty and hopefully get something sorted!
I was same mate. Rather buy one standard and build it up myself. Some good and bad ones about. Decent cars for sure. Dc5 doesn't need a turbo tho
Yeah very true, had an MB6 vti highly tuned that was a hoot, always wanted a DC2 but think a bit too old now tbh so would consider a decent DC5. Lsd nice seats and like I say they seem quite rare!
The guy that bought my dc2,sold his highly modified DC5 to buy it.. He had a DC2 before..said the DC5 was never as sharp as the DC2. Lack of torque is a problem with these cars. I simply got tired of thrashing it to get into the power band. Used to get people flashing lights etc, becuse they thought i was racing because of the screaming engine. Really dated interior now, with poor safety features. You would have to be driving a DC5 on the limit to keep up with a R26.
It sounds really lame but I actually really like how you have to work the engine. Ive got an ep3 as well as my R26 and I honestly prefer to thrash my ep3 even though my megane would leave it dead
i know what you mean..the dc2 in the vtec zone made a great noise. And to a lesser effect,my swift sport it very similar in its power delivery...drive like you stole it..approach. I honestly think the swift sport is as close to old skool hot hatches as you can buy today.
Hired a couple out at nurburgring. They ran rings around much more powerful stuff on the corners, just got bummed on any straight. Great fun
It honestly has better, sharper steering than my R26,as well as a even stiffer chassis.. i was genuinely shocked at how its set up for fast road. If you wind it right up it will hit 130mph! It certainly operates in a very narrow rev range if you want to make rapid progress..addictive stuff. Just runs out of confidence after 3 figure speeds..Short wheel base, light car twitchy syndrome!
I'm currently trying to negotiate a deal on a DC5 via another forum for 8k it's pre facelift but low miles and blue, nice spec! So all being good will have a new toy soon lol, been a month since I sold the Clio and already struggling with the other daily lol!
