250 Engine Dynamics vs RS Tuning

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by RHK3, Apr 28, 2017.

  1. This forum is a life saver. Need cambelt done on my r26 and keep getting quotes for £800+. Thought i was going to have to go to Ktech or RS to get it done but i'm in Herts and now ive discovered ED through this thread!

  2. A map is a map. You can have whatever "gains" you want - they'll just fiddle with it for longer

The question you should be asking is not about figures but about the graph and how much boost they chuff through

And why do you want 360lb/ft from a stock engine? :-/

  3. @neilrs when I originally posted, I didn't know you could ask for a specific amount of gains (I'm pretty new to these kind of mods).

I didn't particularly want 360lb/ft, it's what Paul told me, I should expect from the mods I have. I'm assuming that is too much torque for the stock engine?

Thanks for the info, what should the boost figures be roughly?

  4. Low boost = good for longevity. You always want the least amount possible

Basically it depends if you want a car you can drive, or - car to boast about numbers down the pub

Ideally you want a smooth delivery of torque, which is held on to as long as possible. As engine rpms climb, bhp is a product of torque, so power increases along with torque and revs

Unfortunately the stock turbo isn't really designed for holding on to torque at high revs, so it runs out of puff. It's a small turbo designed to give a bit of a kick low down. It's a hot hatch at the end of the day

However... shoving a load of torque into the engine at 2500rpm just makes for wheel spin and unnecessary strain on components when you boot it

At a guess, 360lb/ft will have a big spike, hold it for 1500rpm or so, then tail away at around 4.5k rpm I would imagine

Load of wank if you ask me. You're better off having a 300/300 car you can drive progressively than a 320/360 torque-steering shopping trolley

360 is nothing on them, Paul's calibrations are pretty smooth and he can tailor is to suit each person if needed. Id be looking at those figures at peak then hold it for as long as possible.

FWIW mine peaks at 385ftlbs then drops but holds over 350 til the redline.

  6. You will need about 330 ft lb for a decent Mk3 map anyway. The engine can take it unlike the Mk2.

You can also map via the sport button and have a dual mode power/torque switch with the different throttle maps.

My view is you also have a throttle connected to your brain so you can control torque and longevity with your right foot. A decent map via RS Tuning is also a requirement.

  7. Got the graph?

  8. Genuinely not trying to provoke, but those numbers don't add up. 350ftlb at 6000 are 400bhp (430bhp at 6500)?

On a modded engine, where do you guys have max bhp?

  9. Peak torque will taper off from 4000 rpm+. At about 6000 rpm, for a typical 320 bhp map, it will be at about 280 ft lb.

It's not a flat torque curve.

Mine makes peak power about 750rpm before the raised rev limit, 365bhp

Sorry, I'm talking shite was looking at bhp not torque, it drops to just over 300 near the red line

  12. That makes sense! Thanks for confirming Jamie!

  13. Would getting the 630cc injectors be beneficial to me at all? Or is that only necessary if you go for a bigger/hybrid turbo?

Waste of time on stock turbo, providing its a mk3

  15. Yeah it is a Mk3..

    Thanks

  16. I went to ED and got the service and cambelt done plus a few other bits that needed doing.
I have no comparison to make but service seemed good and prices reasonable and I was dropped off and picked up from local station (a guy from Reading was also picked up to collect his Clio and that's quite a journey and seemed a regular so if he's prepared to travel that far by train then he must be happy with service)
No remapping done as already got 256bhp (don't know from who).

  18. @James275 how does the car compare to when it was stock?

Also where did you get your intercooler from? I'm looking to get the same one and is the properfekt recirc an improvement over the stock recirc?

  19. I think she feels great. alot more torque!
intercooler was supplied and fitted. Its the stage 1 airtec not the stage 2!
recirc is difficult to tell. Does make a nice noise and it stops the turbo from leaking any boost.
All items were supplied and fitted by engine dynamics.

  20. Guys I'm sorry for slight off topic, but since this is also a thread about modding meganes III, I'd like to ask about what mods it takes to get 300 HP (so a bit less in imperial BHP) from a megane 250 or 265.

Is it possible to get them just from a remap (eg. a remote RS tuning remap) or are other mods necessary (like IC, DP, ...)?

  21. Some decent 99 RON fuel and if the engine is on spec, just a Remap will get about 300 hp. Simple. Use a dyno to prove the result and a decent mapper.

  22. Thanks mate! Dyno before and after is a must. We have 100 octane here in Slovenia, so that will be doable.

  23. I woukd absolutely recommend andy at ed.he mapped and turboed my clio 182 and i gave that hell round snetterton and it was perfect at all times which shows how safe and well tubed map was (on a stock comp engine).

He has time for people also which is great

  24. I'll be taking my car to Andy at ED.

I'm just not sure when yet. Need to get an intercooler first, but had some unexpected bills, so it'll have to wait for now.
