Anyone using 330mm brake upgrade and is it worth the money?

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by supertouring, Dec 22, 2013.

  1. I have been a little disappointed in the R26R braking dept and was considering options.

Car currently has high carbon std sized disks and unknown, but quality, pads.

I could try a pad change but wondered if any has moved to large brake kit and if it was a good move.

I drove the RSR car a few years back at the ring and again the brakes were less than ideal. They said they were struggling to get an ideal setup so I assume this is a common issue?

    Input welcome.

  2. ive had a 330mm kit and have gone back to the standard size with decent pads and never had an issue since.

  3. Coming from a 172, 197 and 265 I find the brakes on my 225 well below RS standards as well. I was looking to go for a more aggressive pad with braided lines (DS2500).

  4. Ive got PF 330 kit on mine with Pagid RS5 pads and uprated fluid, brakes are brilliant, no fade on track and a consistent pedal, well worth it imo.

  5. Same here only difference I'm using the DS 2500 pads, no problems and never had any brake fade

  6. If you all ready have plain HC discs try the DS 1.11 pad or the DS 2500, that will cure your problem along with some good fluid, if your still not happy then you will of lost nothing as you will still use the pads, another very good pad is the carbotec XP 8 , use jjcraceandrally for you pads , best price

  7. Ive just had the Cazan Racing 330 brake upgrade put on mine with ds2500 pads and uprated fluid and it really is a great set up

not tested on track yet though

  8. Half the price to the PF kit as well

  9. it does look like a nice kit, i would have gone for that if it had been out at the time.

  10. I simply replacewd the pads for ds3000 pads and find the brakes fine on my 225 cup

  11. This too but I have been using PF pads. As good a the M3 GT-R I recently had the pleasure of round Silverstone. Only one problem. The pads like to oxidise on the lower half of the car turning it yellow. Plenty of IronX required. Moved to Standard Discs and DS1.11 pads whilst I rebuild the discs over winter. Good but not as good as PF. Hoses and fluid a must. Running SRF.

  12. Thanks for all responses.

Will try a change of pad first, ds2500 i think, then see if there is any improvement.

Swap to big brakes if does not give me the feel i am looking for.

  13. DS2500's aren't very extreme. These were the oem pads fitted to the R26.R

  14. Thought they were brembo

  15. Brembo use Ferrodo for their pads.

  16. What is your souce for this info?

  17. Well if that's the case I may as well buy the OEM ones then , they maybe cheaper

  18. This any good

  19. I must of been waisting my hard earned cash for years buying DS 2500s

  20. Bit more info.
I think std are Fdb 1667 and DS 2500s are FCP 1667h
    Ending h means 2500 compound
the DS 1.11 end in w
    DS 3000s end in R
    hope this helps

  21. Thanks for the info steve. So this suggests they are not ds2500?

If OEM is ds2500 then I doubt that would be a good option for me.

  22. There not DS 2500s I and many others use them with no problems at all, if your after a set up that good for road and fantastic on track then use the HC plain discs and DS 1.11 pads , you will be amazed with the stopping power

  23. I've got some brembos in the garage and I can safely say they are not the same as ds2500's lol

Put them in one day and nearly set them on fire lol

  24. The ones I took off my brand new R26.R?

  25. How you drive and what you set on fire is your business. I am not on here to argue. DS2500's (in my opinion) are not that extreme. Take or leave it.

  26. Thanks for input steve. will take a look at ds1.11 pads.

I guess a lot of this is personal preference and how you drive. I need 100% confidence in brakes and current set up is not giving me that, so time to try something different.

Will post back with findings one I have tried them.

  27. Thanks for input. Have taken it onboard.

  28. I have the DS1.11's in now. They're good and consistent but not a mark on the PF's. I just didn't like the PF's re decorating my car.

  29. I have AP Discs, and DS 2500 pads. I did 10000 miles this year, including 7 trackdays. At MOT time, the Master Tech said the pads had 75% left. This is either an excellent setup,or the fact that I never go above 40MPH!!.

  30. It's the fact that you use the grass to slow down mate

  31. I also have ap 356mm discs & ds2500 pads. Never had any fade on track & plenty of bite.
